At last week’s annual American Society of Neuroradiology conference in Austin, Texas, our fourth-year resident Dr. Ahmed Farhat gave an oral presentation on a rare, one in two million case of aeruloplasminemia. The talk focused on the distinctive MRI features of aceruloplasminemia, an autosomal recessive disorder that results in iron accumulation in the brain and multiple internal organs. He was supervised and joined by our neuroradiology faculty members, Drs. Jarunee Intrapiromkul & Dhairya Lakhani, who also gave their own presentations and participated in multiple council & committee meetings at the conference. Way to go WVU team!

SECOND PLACE FOR WVU!

At the 2026 Annual American Osteopathic College of Radiology (AOCR) Convention last week, our second year radiology resident Dr. Abdulrahman Al Halak won second place for his research exhibit, “Long Segment Spinal Cord Lesions: A Pictorial Review,” which was supervised by our assistant program director, Dr. Justin McCloskey. Also participating and presenting their research exhibits at the conference were Drs. Tim Bishop, Erik Liu, Ahmed Farhat, & Andrew Castagna. This year’s convention theme was titled “Radiology Essentials: From Differential to Diagnosis,” and our residents’ research exhibits focused on case-based approach to image interpretation with an emphasis on the development of differential diagnoses. Great work guys and way to make WVU proud Abdul!

At the recent Society of Breast Imaging symposium in Seattle, Washington, our residency program was represented by Dr. Farhat, one of our fourth year residents & Dr. Hahn, section chief of Breast Imaging. Dr. Farhat’s abstract, “Augmentation, Not Automation — Redefining Breast Imaging Through AI,” was accepted for electronic presentation at the annual symposium where our WVU representatives attended valuable seminars & sessions lead by renowned speakers and researchers in the field of breast imaging. They also had the opportunity to visit exhibits organized by powerhouses in Breast Imaging, including Siemens, Samsung, and Hologic, that showcased the latest technological advancements.

Today we gathered to remember and reflect on the memories created and contributions Dr. Frick left on the WVU’s Department of Radiology & beyond. Speeches by Dr. Clay Marsh, Dr. Tallaksen, as well as from Dr. Frick’s assistant and family reminded all those in attendance of his charismatic and gregarious personality. During his time as chair of the WVU radiology department for over 30 years, Dr. Frick mentored hundreds of radiology residents and saw many of them as part of his own family. He will be missed by residents, faculty, and administration, but never forgotten at WVU. Rest in Peace Dr. Mathis Frick.

It’s that time of year again - R1 Spotlight time! 💡

Let’s meet our first R1, Lyndon Rabe

Hometown: Lenexa, KS
Undergrad: University of Kansas
Med school: University of Queensland - Ochsner

Hobbies? I like playing games (video, card, board, etc), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and reading! If other residents are up to something, then I like to tag along (when invited, of course)! 🃏♟️📚

Favorite food? it’s difficult to beat Kansas City barbeque, especially the ribs from Joe’s KC. But in Morgantown, Lefty’s Detroit pizzas reign! 🍕

How’s living in Morgantown?
It’s good, comfortable! Plenty of outdoors to explore and things to do, and if you want more city Pittsburgh is not far away. Spooky season just ended, and Fright Farm is a blast, just north across the border!

Everyone give a warm welcome to Lyndon!

Join us tomorrow for our Coal Rush tailgate starting at 12pm in C9 lot. Hope to see you all there! 🚂🏈⚫️
