Registration for kindergarten, pre-k and STEPS Academy starts Monday, March 16. All information and forms will be posted on our website at https://www.burke.k12.nc.us/parents/enrollment
𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐧
Students must be 5 years old before Aug. 31 of this year to be eligible for kindergarten. Applications are online or available at your elementary school. You will need parent/guardian driver's license, student birth certificate, three proofs of residency, NC Health Assessment and immunization records.

Students must turn 4 years old before Aug. 31 of this year to be eligible pre-k. Applications can be downloaded from the website or picked up at any elementary school. Birth certificate and proof of income are required.
𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏𝐒 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 is a free, part-day preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds and is available at Forest Hill, Mountain View and Hildebran elementary schools. For availability and more information on STEPS, contact Mrs. Grady at 828-502-9941.

Burke County Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students and staff on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, due to below-freezing temperatures and possible icy roadways. We will continue to monitor weather conditions. A grab-and-go breakfast will be available. The YMCA before-school program will operate on a 2-hour delay as well.

Due to winter weather conditions, Burke County Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students and staff on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025. ​We will continue to monitor the weather overnight. The delay will give us time to assess road conditions, and allow for improvements in road conditions, as we prioritize the safety of our students, staff and young drivers.

The YMCA before-school program will also operate on a two-hour delay.

A grab-and-go breakfast will be available.

PARENTS: If you have not updated your child's "green sheet" information, you have some homework due. The old sheets that your student used to bring home the first day of school for you to fill out are now done online. This includes important contact numbers, transportation preferences, health information and more. All current students must have an annual update completed by Friday, Sept. 5, 2025. Parents- We welcome you to walk your child in on Monday and Tuesday. After the first two days, please allow your child the independence to enter school on their own.

Students enter the building at 7:30am. 🔔

Dismissal begins at 2:45pm.

🚘For car rider parents, please remain in your cars! Car riders ends at 3:05.

🚌For bus rider parents, buses will leave the school at 2:45 p.m.
