A sneak peek at just one of the awesome doors promoting McDowell College Month.

GEAR UP partnered with teacher Marriette Van der Sluijs to write a grant that was fully funded! This grant paid for students to visit the campus of Western Carolina University and then head to the Nantahala Outdoor Center for whitewater rafting the next day.

WMMS 7th graders & EMMS 7th graders, along with MHS mentors, met with Cindy Konarski and her Recreation Therapy Assistant students on the campus of Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton

Today is the last day of GEAR UP's STEM Camp where students focused on learning about digital animation. But as you can see, that's not all they did! From learning new software programs, to rock climbing and rappelling, to developing new skills while they were volunteering, these students have CHALLENGED themselves! We're so proud of them!

Animation Camp for students going into the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th grade! This FREE three week camp teaches students how to use animation design software to create their own video games and cartoons. The camp is June 12 - July 1. Contact Pat Gross at [email protected] for an application! Applications are accepted on a first come/first serve basis.

Middle school parents: Monday, May 11 is the last day to turn in an application for Camp Opportunity - which is a FREE summer camp at MHS, June 15 - 18. Check out the McDowell County Schools webpage for more details.

7th and 8th grade families: There is a GEAR UP event tonight at MHS at 6:00 pm to discuss preparing students to take college level classes in high school. Ms. Gross will lead the meeting in the media center!

Also, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade parents: Your student should receive an application for Camp Opportunity some time this week. This is a FREE one week summer camp where students get to learn about careers they're interested in! Let me know if you'd like more info!

It's Senior Motivation Day! Today MHS is covered with posters congratulating and encouraging the seniors to finish their year strong. Seniors: You're so close! You can't give up now!
