Morganton Day School Founded in 1978, MDS serves children JK3-8th grade. We are academically rigorous and future-focused.

Morganton Day School, previously known as The Children’s School, has made a commitment, reaffirmed daily, to be an institution of learning. The School is dedicated to a philosophy of experiential education, parental involvement, and a concern for the uniqueness of the individual as a member of a global community. Exceptional academic goals are met without compromising the child’s spirit, human dignity, or self esteem. The interrelated curriculum encompasses math, science, social studies, communication skills including language arts and computer skills, visual and dramatic arts, foreign language, music, and physical education. Founded in 1978, Morganton Day School (MDS) serves children from Junior-Kindergarten to Eighth Grade. With very low teacher to student ratios and a dedication to our students' success, MDS gives your child the individualized attention to help them achieve their maximum potential.

🇺🇸 Walking in the footsteps of history. 🗽

Each year, our 5th grade Humanities students bring history to life through their Ellis Island Experience—an immersive experience designed to give our student body a glimpse into what it may have been like for immigrants arriving in America more than a century ago.

Students move through a series of questions, examinations, and tests while imagining the uncertainty faced by thousands of families who traveled through Ellis Island in search of opportunity and a new future.
Through this hands-on experience, students build historical understanding, empathy, perspective-taking, and appreciation for the courage woven into the immigrant experience.

At MDS, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens when students don’t just study history—they step into it.

🌎 Learning through language, exploration, and our five senses!

At Morganton Day School, our students begin learning Spanish as 3-year-olds and continue building their language skills all the way through 8th grade. As an IB school, we believe learning a second language helps students become curious, open-minded global citizens.
Today, our JK3 students brought Spanish into their “Who We Are” unit, exploring the central idea that we use our senses to explore the world. 👀👂👃👅🖐️
This week, they focused on taste by exploring different spices! As they tasted each one, they practiced saying “Me gusta!” if they liked it or “No me gusta!” if they didn’t. 🌶️✨
Learning a new language is even more meaningful when it’s connected to real-world experiences—and sometimes, a little spice! 🌎💙

💥🌱 Pop goes the seed pod! 🌱💥
Our learners at Morganton Day School are exploring our Sharing the Planet unit, and they’ve discovered that plants support life on our planet, starting with how they make new plants!

This week, we investigated how seeds travel. Did you know some seed pods actually EXPLODE to scatter their seeds? 🤯 To see it for ourselves, we filled balloons with birdseed and popped them with a sharp pencil to reenact an exploding seed pod. 🎈✏️

The result? Our seeds didn’t just drop to the ground. They flew across the room! Our scientists learned that seed dispersal helps plants spread out, find new space to grow, and keep life going on our planet. 🌿

🌎 Sharing the Planet 🌱

Our 2nd graders are exploring how living things depend on elements within an ecosystem—and what better way to investigate than by creating their own biome tubes! 🔍

From the desert and forest to the ocean and tundra, students are discovering how different environments provide the resources living things need to survive. Through hands-on learning, they’re seeing that every part of an ecosystem plays a role. 🌵🌲🌊❄️

Learning about our planet is even better when you can build it, explore it, and see the connections for yourself!

Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball Team on becoming the winningest volleyball team in Morganton Day School history! 🏐

What an incredible accomplishment for a group of athletes who have shown us what it means to be a team. No matter what the rest of the season holds, we could not be more proud of these girls and the way they continue to demonstrate teamwork, sportsmanship, dedication, and heart every time they step on the court.

Our Middle School sports program continues to grow, and this team is helping pave the way for what’s ahead! We are so proud of the culture these athletes are building and the example they are setting for the next generation of Titans. 💚🔱

🎭✨ When shady accountant James P. Pennypacker announces that the beloved local theater must close due to lack of funds, Mrs. Goodman, popular director Cecille Deville, and their loyal cast spring into action to save the day!
Guided by two hilarious Narrators, audiences will journey through the magic of musical theater in this fun-filled “play within a play” as a small-town theater company fights to keep the spotlight shining. 🌟🎶
