NCSSM-Morganton The Morganton campus of the nation’s first public, residential STEM high school, challenging and inspiring NC students.

In 2016, North Carolina voters passed the Connect NC bond package which included $58 million to grow a second campus of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Morganton (NCSSM). Planning commenced in late-2016 with the hiring of an architectural firm, educational program design consultants, and a planning director. NCSSM will open its second campus in 2022 to the first class of residential students.

Just before Family Day the NCSSM Music Collaborative performed as the opening act of the TGIF Pop-Up Concert in partnership with Downtown Morganton and HMF Inc. We couldn’t be prouder of these dedicated musicians and know their families, visiting from all over North Carolina, enjoyed the chance to see these Dragons share their gifts. 💜🎵

A heartfelt thank you to the students of the Charismatic Quills of Kindness Club at NCSSM-Morganton for collecting handwritten letters of encouragement for UNC Health Blue Ridge patients and their families.

These thoughtful notes will be shared throughout our hospital, bringing comfort, support, and a reminder that our community is thinking of those on their healing journey.

We are grateful for the compassion, leadership, and community spirit demonstrated by these students. Thank you for helping us bring a little extra kindness to patients and caregivers when they need it most.

We are proud to announce that NCSSM has once again been named the #1 Best Public High School in America by Niche. This is the fourth time NCSSM has been honored with this title since 2023. NCSSM has also been named the #1 Best Public High School in North Carolina for the seventh year in a row.

We are honored by this recognition of our commitment to our mission in Durham, Morganton, and across the state of North Carolina. We continue to strive to accept the greater challenge and provide opportunities to our phenomenal students.
