Your Serve Tennis Lessons Ready to play some tennis and enjoy some outdoor fun? Offering private, semi-private, and group lessons. Offering pickleball lessons too.

Instructor Wayne Giese loves sharing the game of tennis with others. He has been playing tennis for over 40 years. He taught his two daughters how to play the game and both were accomplished junior USTA and high school players. His youngest daughter, Valerie, played college tennis and now helps him instruct. She is introducing her two young kids to the game now. If you’re new to the game or a bit rusty and want to pick up that racket again, Wayne and Valerie can help you improve while having fun. Thank you parents, grandparents, transporters for getting the tennis participants to the courts or gym.
Our two sessions M-F went well with each participant honing their tennis skills and when indoors their pickleball skills. Special thanks to our instructors. Sandra Powell, Corey Powell, John Farrar and Jack Bryan. We apologize for not finding opponents for a travel team. We are thankful for the support of the P&R staff at Collett St. Rec.

Morganton opens summer tennis season
The Morganton Parks and Recreation Department’s youth summer tennis team hosted Boone on June 26 at Freedom Park to open the season, falling by a narrow 3-2 margin.

Morganton gained both of its wins from No. 2 singles player Roselyn Siong (4-2 and 4-0). No. 4 Luke Zimmerman lost 3-8, and Nos. 1 and 3 players James Siong and Liam Cogan dropped matches by 8-0 scores. Morganton’s Will and Emma Zimmerman also played an exhibition match.

“We were missing some of our best players,” Morganton coach Wayne Giese said, “but that has been happening for the past couple of years due to vacations, camps, etc. We will keep trying to hone skills and improve throughout the summer, but the biggest thing is just these kids getting a racquet in their hands and having fun playing the sport.”

Morganton will next make the trip to Boone for a rematch (date TBD).
