At last week’s board meeting, we were happy to recognize UCMS secretary Jennie Duncan with a “Heart of a Brave” award! Principal John Paris acknowledged her dedicated service with the following presentation:

Ms. Jennie Duncan truly embodies the Heart of a Brave through her exceptional dedication, tirelessness, and commitment to serving our entire school community. As our support secretary, Jennie is the engine that keeps our school running smoothly every single day.

Whether she is stepping in to assist staff members, supporting students with care and patience, or handling administrative tasks behind the scenes, Jennie consistently goes above and beyond what is asked of her. What stands out most is her proactive approach to problem-solving. Whenever an unexpected challenge arises, Jennie tackles it head-on with resourcefulness, grace, and an unwavering positive attitude.

Jennie doesn't just do her job—she elevates the entire school environment through her hard work and genuine care for others. Union County Schools is a better place because of her, and she is deeply deserving of this recognition.

Congratulation to Ms. Jennie Duncan! She is pictured here with Mr. Paris, Superintendent Dr. Terra Hancock, and board member Susan Duncan.

We continue to feature our new inductees into the United Community Bank UCHS Athletic Hall of Fame. Today, we’re happy to honor Kara Cunningham!

Kara is a 2002 graduate of Union County High School, where she was a four-year varsity member of the Bravettes basketball program.

During her high school career, Kara earned numerous honors, highlighted by being named the 2002 2nd Region Player of the Year and receiving Honorable Mention All-State recognition. She was also selected as one of only 40 players invited to try out for the Kentucky All-Star Team. Kara was a two-time All-2nd Region Team selection and a two-time All-6th District Team selection. She was also named to the 2nd Region All-Tournament Team twice and the 6th District All-Tournament Team twice.

In addition to her success on the court, Kara was a two-time Academic All-State Team selection. She finished her Bravette career ranked among the top 10 in school history in both points scored and rebounds.

Following high school, Kara pursued a career in nursing and has now been a Registered Nurse for 21 years. She and her husband, Travis, have been married for 19 years and are the proud parents of two daughters, Riley and Layla. Kara’s competitive spirit has remained a part of her life, and she continues to enjoy competing and staying involved in fitness as a functional fitness coach at EPT.

Kara is grateful for her time at Union County High School and for the coaches, teammates, family, and friends who supported her throughout her basketball career and beyond. She wants to especially thank her dad, Kerry Willett, for always pushing her and making her better on the court and in life. She is honored to be recognized as a member of the UCHS-United Community Bank Athletic Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to Kara Cunningham!
