At The Sandlot, August is all about kindness.🥳

How do you actually teach kindness to toddlers? You show them. Kids don’t learn kindness because we tell them to be kind. They learn it because they watch us do it. That’s why modeling matters. Remember the saying monkey see monkey do.....

The early years are everything. From 0 to 5, kids are building the foundation of who they are and who they’ll become. This is where right vs. wrong, empathy, and compassion start to take root.

This is my favorite time of year, we celebrate Kindness Month with capes, posters, mantras, and meditations. Families create “kindness capes” at home, our students become super friends, and we make kindness the superpower that carries into everything we do.

Because here’s the thing......

how we do one thing is how we do everything. And if we start with kindness, everything else falls into place.

Help us spread kindness like confetti this month. A smile, a hug, a kind word… it all matters.

This time of year always hits me the hardest.

Unlike traditional school, this is the time of year we have to say goodbye to the kids who graduate out. They don’t stay with us year after year. They come in, we pour into them, and then just like that, it’s time for them to move on.

New kids come in, families enroll, and while it’s exciting, it’s also tough, because I already know how it ends. They’re not staying forever. They’ll grow, learn what they need, and move on.

And even though I remind myself (and my team) that this is how it’s supposed to go… it still stings. You can tell your head it’s part of the job, but your heart? That part doesn’t listen.

They’ll leave knowing how to be kind, how to breathe through hard moments, how to treat people right, and how to stay true to themselves. That’s the goal. That’s the win.

But it never gets easier to say goodbye. Every single one of them leaves a little mark on us. And when they go, it’s quiet.

To my teachers out there, I know how much love you give, and how much it hurts to let go.

But we did what we came to do.
We gave them what they needed.
We were part of their story.
And now they’re ready.

Let’s hold that.
