Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” — Theodore Roosevelt

This is one of the lessons we teach our UAMA Leadership Team: leadership isn’t just about knowing the most, being the strongest, or having the highest rank. True leadership starts with caring about others.

Here’s one of our top young leaders making a genuine connection with a few of our younger students off the mat.

These moments may seem small, but they are where leadership is truly developed, through encouragement, kindness, patience, and taking the time to make someone else feel valued.

At United Academy of Martial Arts, we believe martial arts is about more than learning how to kick and punch. It’s about discovering the best of who you can become, and helping others do the same.

Lead by example.
Lead with care.
Lead with purpose.

One of our BEST UAMA Family Picnics!Good food, lots of laughs, great conversations, and just a whole lot of fun hanging out together! We always say, “Nobody Earns a Black Belt Alone,” and this weekend was a perfect example of that. It was awesome seeing everyone together, not just training partners, but families and friends enjoying time with each other. These are the days we remember! Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make it such a fun day. We’re already looking forward to the next one! (408)657-6820

Watching your big brother train in the Black Belt class is more than just watching, it’s seeing what’s possible.

For younger siblings, their older brother can become a powerful example of what dedication, discipline, and hard work can achieve.

They see the effort.
They see the growth.
They see the excellence he has earned.

And one day, they may step onto that same mat with their own goals and dreams, ready to discover just how far they can go.

The example you set today can inspire the next generation tomorrow.

United in discovering the best of who you can become.

WHAT MAKES A BLACK BELT DIFFERENT?

It’s not just the technique.

It’s the details.

When a student first learns a kick, they focus on the big picture:
➡️ Get the leg up.
➡️ Complete the movement.
➡️ Get it right.

But as they progress, something changes.

They begin to focus on the details:

🎯 Proper chamber
🎯 Foot position
🎯 Hip rotation
🎯 Power
🎯 Control
🎯 Recoil

Those small details add up to something BIG:

MASTERY.

So how do you develop Black Belt-level focus?

🧠 BE PRESENT.

When you train, put everything else aside.

Don’t worry about what happened yesterday.
Don’t worry about what you have to do tomorrow.

Focus on what you need to do RIGHT NOW.

That’s Present Focus.

And here’s the best part…

Present Focus isn’t just for karate.

Use it at school.
Use it at work.
Use it with your family.
Use it when pursuing your goals.

Wherever you are, be there.

Because becoming a Black Belt isn’t about doing more.

🥋 It’s about doing better, one focused detail at a time.

Discovering the Best of Who You Can Become.

We are so proud of the incredible job Cgn Chanel did leading the Summer Camp at ChildSync Pediatric Occupational Therapy!

Throughout the week, she incorporated martial arts into the camp, creating a fun, engaging, and confidence-building experience for the kids. Today, the campers showcased everything they learned, and they did an amazing job!

Cgn Chanel has aspirations of becoming an occupational therapist, and after seeing the passion, leadership, and care she demonstrated this week, we know her future is incredibly bright.

Congratulations to ChildSync Pediatric Occupational Therapy and Cgn Chanel on a successful Summer Camp and a fantastic showcase! We are proud of you and can’t wait to see all the lives you’ll continue to impact.

A little late posting this, but this happened last week.

This is a photo of me, GM Jim Buhisan and Paul Caffal, my lifelong friend and training partner, after completing our next degree test. I’m incredibly honored to have earned my 8th Degree Black Belt.

At this stage of my martial arts journey, I honestly don’t think much about rank anymore. I simply love to train, continue learning, and share what I’ve been blessed to learn with my students. Watching them grow and discover the best version of themselves is the greatest reward.

But when your original instructor tells you it’s time to test, the only response is, “Yes, Sir.”

GM Jim Buhisan is one of the most respected martial arts instructors in the country. What has always impressed me most, however, isn’t just the accolades, he has produced state, national, and world champions in Olympic style TKD and sport karate, and he has been inducted into several martial arts hall of fames, it’s the way he has built people. He has always been a positive-based instructor, helping his students discover the best they can become and reach their fullest potential.

To have him believe I was ready for this next step, and to complete the test alongside one of my closest friends, is something I’ll always be grateful for.

Thank you, GM Jim, for your guidance, belief, and example over all these years. It is truly an honor. - Kjn Ramir

The true measure of martial arts isn't how we act in the dojang, it's how we live outside of it.

Show respect at school by encouraging classmates. Show respect at work by being dependable and kind. Show respect in your community by treating everyone with dignity. Most importantly, show respect at home, where strong families are built through patience, gratitude, and kindness.

In martial arts, self-defense begins long before a confrontation. It starts with making wise choices, creating positive environments, and treating others with respect. Respect builds trust, strengthens relationships, and often helps prevent conflict before it ever begins.

Every bow, every "thank you," every act of kindness is an opportunity to live the Black Belt mindset.

Respect isn't just something we practice in class, it's something we carry wherever we go.

Nobody earns a Black Belt alone. Let's continue building a culture of respect, one interaction at a time.

Karate Summer Camp is More Than Just Kicks and Games!

At United Academy’s Karate Summer Camp, the fun goes far beyond martial arts training, exciting games, and daily activities.

Our campers build lasting friendships, create unforgettable memories, and learn valuable life lessons that extend far beyond the karate school. Through teamwork, respect, perseverance, leadership, and confidence, students develop skills that help them make healthy choices and become the best versions of themselves.

Whether they’re working together to overcome challenges, encouraging one another during activities, or celebrating each other’s successes, the connections they make and the lessons they learn can have a positive impact for years to come.

Summer camp isn’t just about staying active, it’s about building character, creating lifelong memories, and growing together.

✨ Friendships that last.
✨ Memories that matter.
✨ Lessons for life.
