McBrayer Elementary School hosted their Frost Fest last night and oh what fun it was! SEL Coach Miss Megan and school counselor Mrs. Grigsby assisted students in making sensory snow globes! These were a huge hit with students throughout the night! Help your student utilize the Snowfalll Breathing activity by using their snow globes!!

Friday at Rowan County Senior High School’s club fair, students had the opportunity to sign up for Joyful Journeys! This club began at RCMS last school year and we hope for a great first year at the High School. We got to speak with so many future members about creating a positive community focused on mental health and well-being. Those who missed out on signing up can feel free to contact Mrs. Lawson ([email protected]) if interested. We hope this school year is a “joyful journey” for all students! 💚

Last week our team traveled to Savannah, GA to present and attend the Southeast Conference for School Climate. It was an amazing experience sharing with educators and school mental health professionals across the country the successes, challenges, and strides we’ve made at Rowan County Schools with our work in mental wellness and social emotional learning. We gained so much knowledge that we can’t wait to put into action for our upcoming school year!

We are so proud of our middle school Joyful Journeys members for presenting at our board meeting this evening! First, Matthew Cornett, 7th grade member, delivered his amazing original oratory report on Tourette’s Syndrome. He provided each attendee with a teal ribbon to showcase Tourette’s Syndrome Awareness. We encourage everyone to wear teal to show your support!

Then, our students who presented for Children’s Behavioral Health Acceptance Day brought their presentation to our board members to showcase the brilliant work they’ve done at raising mental health awareness, decreaseing the stigma, and fostering a sense of belonging this school year at Rowan County Middle School!!

We are so proud of each of these students!!

With parent permission, we interviewed several members of our Joyful Journeys mental wellness club at Rowan County Middle School. This video was shown at Children's Behavioral Health Acceptance Day last Thursday when six of our students presented. We are so proud of our students and the impact that Joyful Journeys and CharacterStrong has had on them.

It's a long video, but definitely worth watching.
