🌊🚤 Exciting Milestone! 🚤🌊
After over a year of hard work and collaboration with SEA Grant and Carteret Community College, we are thrilled to announce the successful launch of our first Commercial Fishing Academy! 🎓🌊
We had the privilege of working with a dedicated group of students from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, and we proudly certified 13 Commercial Fishing Vessel Drill Conductors through AMSEA (Alaska Marine Safety Education Association) and the US Coast Guard. The students now go on to a 100 Hour apprenticeship with a commercial fisherman.
The students gained invaluable skills in:
⚓ Basic Navigation
⚓ Seamanship
⚓ Regulations
⚓ And most importantly—SAFETY!
We’re so proud of this incredible achievement and excited to continue training the next generation of commercial fishermen who will make our waters safer! 🌊🙌

🌊 Thank You for an Incredible Year! 🌊

To all of our amazing followers and supporters, thank you for helping Maritime Training Professionals grow exponentially this year! 🙌 Through your word of mouth, we’ve had the privilege of working with dozens of families to improve their boat handling skills and build confidence on the water. It’s been truly rewarding to see so many people embrace the joys and responsibilities of life on the water.

Exciting news! 🎉 I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve partnered with NC Sea Grant to develop and instruct a Commercial Fishing Academy and 100-Hour Apprenticeship program. This unique opportunity is set to launch in March 2025 and will offer full scholarships and a $2,000 stipend to the first 12 students who successfully complete the class and apprenticeship. 🐟⚓

Thank you again for trusting Maritime Training Professionals to guide you on your maritime journey. Your support has made all of this possible, and I can’t wait to see what’s on the horizon!

Several exciting updates coming soon! But first i’d like to announce that we are certified to instruct the North Carolina Boating safety course. We are the first private business to be approved to issue the NC Wildlife Boating Safety certificate (for in person classes). In the Spring 2024 we will be offering a one day hybrid on-water/classroom training ending with the NC certification exam. 5 students per class, target ages are 12-16

Friends and Family! I am excited to announce that as of today May 1st I’m stepping down as the Manager of Sea Tow Crystal Coast. During the last few years I’ve recognized the need for tailored on-the-water training and specialized boat and yacht management. I will still remain a part-time Captain with Sea Tow, as well as adjunct professor at Carteret Community College. Please like and share my page for updates and training opportunities in the Crystal Coast area.

Captain Pete Koltun is your local expert for all aspects of on-the-water training. Pete grew up on the water and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard at 17. He served for 21 years and was an expert Small Boat Coxswain and Deck Watch Officer on several Coast Guard Cutters. After he retired in 2017, he and his family relocated back to the Crystal Coast, he accepted a position at Carteret Community College as a professor in the Maritime Technologies department. While there, he instructed the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels License course, 100- and 200-ton masters license upgrade and commercial assistance endorsement. When Covid closed the school Pete was asked to come onboard with Sea Tow Crystal Coast as a Senior Staff Captain and within a year took over as General Manager of the franchise.

Recognizing a severe gap in local on the water training Pete championed the “Local Waters” and “Women on the water” courses at Carteret Community college. And after hundreds of requests for On-Water training he spearheaded this service.

Pete remains a part time Sea Tow Captain and Adjunct Professor at CCC. His passion is safety on the water and helping families have a comfortable, independent and stressless day underway.
