SMC World Languages and Cultures

SMC World Languages and Cultures The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers courses in French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish.

Our students can take courses in culture, civilization, literature, linguistics, film, art, business terminology, conversation and translation. Most upper division courses are taught in the target language, while Modern Language courses are taught in English and are open to all undergraduates. We encourage our students to study abroad during the semester as well as during the summer and January Te

rm. Our programs abroad include Cuernavaca (Mexico), Sevilla (Spain), Aix-en-Provence (France), Rome and Syracuse (Italy), Tokyo (Japan), Berlin (Germany) and Shangai (China). We offer courses in the following languages:

Looking for a fun class for the fall semester? Consider taking a virtual trip to six cities on four continents by taking our brand new course WLC 001-01. This course will be taught by professors Maria Grazia De Angelis and Helga Lenart Cheng. You will take a virtual tour to Rome, Asmara, Buenos Aires, Paris, Budapest and Saigon in order to gain a deeper understanding of the trends that shape today's cities-fascinating places of contradiction, of wealth and poverty, rule and resistance, community and exclusion.

A fun time was had by all who attended the International Potluck yesterday. A special Thank You to our language students for entertaining us with great music, to our Japanese students for cooking delicious food and our Italian students for manning the pesto making station.
