Join EQ’s Saddle Fitting Tour in Central & Southern California, October 14–17!

When equine veterinarians who also ride choose EQ, they’re often drawn in by the science, but stay for the feeling. There’s nothing quite like the EQ Effect: helping horse and rider move more comfortably together and find a better connection.

Jessica Younk, Equine Veterinarian and FEI Dressage rider, shares her experience:

A behind-the-scenes photo from our summer trip to England! 🇬🇧

Each summer, members of the EQ team travel to the UK to meet with the craftspeople who make each of our saddles by hand. Our annual summit gives us the opportunity to celebrate fine workmanship, update our designs, evaluate leathers and finishing details, and, of course, sit in quite a few saddles!

This shot shows a lineup of EQ Dressage Saddles awaiting their final outgoing inspection before making their way from England to the U.S.

We love getting a glimpse of our saddles at this stage, knowing they’ll soon be delighting new horses and riders.

We were excited to see EQ saddles featured in the latest issue of USDF Connection!

“The Perfect Piaffe?” explores research from Michigan State University’s McPhail Equine Performance Center examining the biomechanics of piaffe and how different aspects of the movement may relate to judges’ scores.

Photos used to illustrate the mechanics of a correct piaffe were taken from a research collaboration where EQ Saddle Science was chosen to provide demo saddles for participating riders, who were mainly trainers.

The inside scoop?  At the time the research photos were taken, the professional trainers pictured were riding in EQ demo saddles. We’re thrilled to report that after experienceing the “EQ Effect” during the study, each of them now have EQ saddles of their own!

As a science-based business, we love supporting research that helps deepen our understanding of how horses move and use their bodies, and we’re grateful to have been tapped to play a small part in this project.

Have you ever thought about what your horse’s shoulders are doing underneath the saddle?

With every stride, the shoulder blades rotate back when your horse reaches their front legs forward. You may not know a critical fact: the back edge of the shoulder will always slide under the saddle with every step your horse takes. If the saddle interferes with that movement, your horse may shorten their stride or change the way they use their body to try to avoid the restriction, which may even be painful.
