HUGE shout-out to SMC science professor Sonya Schuh for earning the Judith Pool Woman Scientist of the Year Award for 2024! This is one of the top awards given by the Association for Women in Science's Northern California chapter and honors a woman scientist who has made great impacts in science, in academia or industry, and in mentoring other women for more than 10 years of her career.
This is an incredible achievement by one of the "best of the best" at Saint Mary's, and quite possibly one of the best science educators in the country. Perhaps one of the most telling things about Sonya's teaching prowess is that so many of her previous students are now in top-notch PhD, MD, and other professional health programs around the country.
I hope current and would-be Gael science students out there take notice!
Congratulations, Dr. Schuh, on this amazing award. Saint Mary's could not be more proud of you!
