SPECIAL EDUCATION EVALUATIONS FOR HOME-SCHOOLED OR PRIVATE-SCHOOL STUDENTS

In response to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA 2004), Minnesota School Districts must demonstrate that “all children with disabilities, including children with disabilities attending private schools, regardless of the severity of their disabilities, and who are in need of special education and related services, are identified, located and evaluated.” This responsibility extends to children with disabilities who are educated at home or in nonpublic schools.

Upon request, your local public school will provide concerned parents with information on specific disabilities, including the educational or behavioral characteristics of each disability. Parents who believe their child may have a disability may request information on how to arrange for an evaluation through the district’s special education staff.

Parents of students who are evaluated and found eligible for special education services will become part of a team, which will develop, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of an Individual Service Plan to meet the identified needs of their children.

If you have questions or would like to receive information about specific disabilities or evaluation, please contact the Principal of the school building your child would be attending if your child were enrolled in public school. Your school district is committed to success for all learners.

Dear Families,

Even though Minnesota provides free school breakfast and lunch to all students, completing the Application for Educational Benefits is still essential for our district—and offers great perks for your family!

Completing this form directly impacts our schools' funding for classroom resources, academic support programs, and student services.

Why Fill It Out?
Benefits for Your Family: Eligible families can receive discounts or full waivers on school activity and athletic fees, field trips, college application fees, and standardized testing (like ACTs).

Benefits for Our District: Every completed application helps secure critical state and federal funding that keeps our classrooms well-equipped and supported.

Simple & Quick: Only 1 application is needed per household. You do not need to fill out separate forms for each child—just list all students living in your home on a single form.

100% Confidential: All information is completely private and used solely to determine program funding and fee discounts.

How to Apply: You can complete and submit Applications for Educational Benefits ONLINE (after you create or log in to Edutrak). The process is quick, easy, and FREE. No more paper applications are lost at the bottom of a backpack. Look for the BLUE button on your home page after logging into your Edutrak account to start the application process.

Income guidelines for the Application of Educational Benefits can be found here: https://www.fna.usda.gov/schoolmeals/fr-040926

You must create and register an account with https://foodservice.edutrak.com/ to begin if you haven’t already. An Edutrak account will allow you to view all transactions your student(s) make here at school, deposit money into your family's Meal Account, and submit the Application for Educational Benefits. If you need the information to register a new Edutrak Account, please contact [email protected].

Paper applications are still available upon request.

Taking just five minutes to fill out this form makes a huge difference for our entire school community. Thank you for your continued support!

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Heather Stutz at [email protected], or visit: https://www.moraschools.org/page/nutritiondepartment.
