HSMC WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS
We have a few important reminders and exciting activities coming up! Please take a moment to read through this week’s announcements.

COUNSELOR’S CORNER
PSAT – JUNIORS ONLY
The PSAT will be offered to Juniors only on Friday, October 16th, from 8:30 AM–11:30 AM. The testing location will be announced closer to the test date.
The cost of the PSAT this year is $13, which can be paid by cash or check made payable to HSMC. Sophomores will have the opportunity to participate in the PSAT in the Spring Semester.

Summer College Transcripts
If your student took a college class over the summer, please remember to email their summer college transcript to Ms. Garcia at [email protected].

IMPORTANT REMINDER – COLLEGE CLASS CHECK-OUTS
Please avoid checking your student out of their college classes whenever possible. If it is absolutely necessary to check your student out during a college class, please notify the HSMC office in advance so Ms. Navalta can provide the student with a note to give to their college professor. Thank you for helping us ensure our students are following proper college attendance procedures!

MAKERSPACE TOUR – Tuesday, September 1st
Our Freshmen will be visiting the college campus MakerSpace for a tour!

CAMPUS SAFETY & COLLEGE VISITORS – Thursday, September 3rd
Freshmen: Campus Police will be visiting the Freshman class to go over safety on the college campus and important safety information.
Seniors: A representative from California State University, Channel Islands will be visiting to talk with students about the school and opportunities available to them!

ASG ELECTION & BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS – Friday, September 4th
Virtual ASG Election: Our ASG election will take place virtually on Friday! Students, be sure to participate and make your voice heard!
Sophomores: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County will be visiting the Sophomore class to give a presentation!

FRIDAY IS AN ODD DAY!
Just a reminder that this Friday will be an ODD day. Students, please check your schedules and plan accordingly!

Hello HSMC Families! We have a few reminders and exciting things coming up next week!

🚗 PICK-UP REMINDER
We’ve noticed some traffic jams happening in our parking lot during pick-up. To help keep traffic moving safely and smoothly, please do not use the parking lot like a roundabout. When picking up your student, please park in a designated parking spot rather than driving through the lot and parking to wait for your student.

Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe and organized!

We hope everyone had a great first day of college classes today! 🎓📚 We know there is a lot to get used to, and we hope your students had a smooth and successful start to the semester!

Here are a few important updates and reminders for this week:

📅 IMPORTANT YEARLY CALENDAR CORRECTION
We wanted to let families know that there was a mistake on the yearly school calendar for October. The asterisk indicating the recess day was accidentally placed on the wrong date.
Please note that Tuesday, October 6, 2026, will be a recess day, and there will be NO SCHOOL that day. 🏫❌

🔥 FIRE DRILL – Tuesday, August 11
Our first fire drill will take place on Tuesday, August 11 at 10:10 AM. Please remind students to follow all staff directions and safety procedures during the drill.

🎓 SENIOR PRESENTATIONS – Thursday, August 13
Seniors will see presentations with our new counselor, Ms. Garcia, on Thursday! We are excited for our seniors to meet her and learn more about the support and resources available to them. 💙

📸 PICTURE DAY PHOTOS & MAKE-UP DAY

Don't forget! This Spring Break, March 20–25, 2027, Ms. Sandoval will be planning an exciting trip to Puerto Rico with HSMC students and families!
Ms. Sandoval has organized student trips in the past to the East Coast, Italy, and Costa Rica, and we are SO excited for this next adventure! 🎉

Today was the first day of school at the High School at Moorpark College!

Welcome, Phoenix students and families. A new year means new classrooms, new routines and the chance to build something meaningful from day one. It was so good to see the campus full of students again!

Please welcome two new staff members to our HSMC family! We have a new full-time Counselor, Jessica Garcia, and a new full-time English Teacher, Brian Friefeld

📚 Schedules
Please refer to the schedule you received at the Welcome Back Picnic. If you did not receive one, please let Ms. Navalta know as soon as possible, and she'll be happy to send it to you.

💻 Q Student Connect
Returning students will not be able to access their Q Student Connect accounts until tomorrow because passwords have been reset.
🎓 No College Classes This Week
Please remember that college classes do not begin this week, so be sure to keep that in mind when planning your week!

⏰ Minimum Days This Week
Since college classes have not started yet, this week will be minimum days for Freshman and Sophomores.
🗓️ Tuesday – Thursday: Dismissal at 11:40 AM
🗓️ Friday: Dismissal at 12:00 PM

🎓 Juniors & Seniors
If you notice any issues with your college schedule, please stop by the office this week so we can help get everything sorted out before college classes begin next week. Your high school classes will determine your schedule for this week, so please be sure to pay attention to your even and odd class periods to determine your start and end times.

📌 This Friday is an Odd Day, so be sure to check your schedule and come prepared for the correct classes.

👟 PE Students
If you have PE this week, you do not need to wear PE clothes. Your PE teacher will be going over the course syllabus and classroom expectations.

Smile! 😄 Friday, August 7th is Picture Day! This photo will be used in this year's yearbook as well as your high school ID, so come dressed and ready for your picture! Can't make it? No worries! 😊 We'll have a make-up picture day in September.
