MSUM Choirs Stay updated on news from the MSUM choirs, including performances, recruitment, auditions, and other announcements. Solfire is also an auditioned ensemble.

Minnesota State University Moorhead is home to great choral music making. MSUM's choirs perform a variety of music styles and genres, and are open to singers of all levels and backgrounds. Concert Choir requires a brief audition to establish that a singer's skill level is consistent with a successful experience in the ensemble. The University Choir is not auditioned and requires no previous singing experience; singers of all ability levels are welcomed and encouraged to join!

The MSUM Dragon Choir just finished up their tour to New York City this week. They were invited to preform at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Dr. Catherine Sailer. This trip was one for the books and we are so grateful for all the opportunities we had this school year.

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Johnson, Director of Choral Ensembles and Vocal Music Education, and Dr. Benjamin Druffel, Director of Wind Ensembles and Instrumental Education, on their achievement of being granted tenure at Minnesota State Moorhead and promoted to Associate Professors of Music. We are proud of our outstanding faculty here in the School of Performing Arts, and can’t wait to see how they lead our students and program for years to come!

The MSUM choirs wrapped up their final concert “Glories Abound” last night for the 2025-2026 academic year. This has been a year of hard work and dedication from both choirs. Thank you to all who attended or tuned into the livestream. Your support means a great deal to us.

We aren’t done yet! The MSUM Dragon Choir will be heading to New York to preform Vivaldi’s “Gloria” at Carnegie Hall. The group of students will be leaving for the trip May 23rd. Stay tuned for updates!
