Fueled by coffee, curiosity, and a future classroom full of big dreams. 🍎✨

Told ChatGPT to make me into a caricature based on what it knows about me… this is what I got (mind you after numerous attempts)

I HAVE COMPLETED 1st GRADE!!!

After completing an extensive practicum, I have accumulated 108 hours and 25 minutes of observation, learning, and teaching experience. As a preservice teacher, I learned so much by putting theory into practice! Although we were told to come in on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, I made it a goal to better myself as a preservice teacher and go in every day! I can say that I am very proud to come out of this practicum with so much experience!

I learned that my teaching style is heavily influenced by gamification and movement, as I incorporated activities such as word hunts, 4 corners, and letter scrambles throughout my lessons.

I also learned that while putting together a lesson plan, it is very hard to get the timing down because you don't know how the students will behave or participate during lessons. But, finding a balance in your day or week to take away something is ok, but bring the learning back that you missed in another day and spend more time on it.

I am beyond grateful to have had such a great mentor teacher, Sarah Klemetson, to learn and grow from! Sarah, the feedback you provided was truly helpful as it made me think of things for the next lesson or something to always be thinking about, even if you've been teaching for almost 15 years! Your team of first-grade teachers was also so amazing! Seeing behind the scenes of many full days of teaching really gave insight into how teachers manage so many things... yet still can't seem to get everything done! ;) Thank you for letting me into your classroom for the past four weeks and teaching a variety of lessons! I had a blast coming in every day! I will miss you and the class!

This is not the end, but I am getting close to it! Student teaching for me is coming in FALL 2026! But before that, I have another practicum to attend!

- MR. FELLMAN!

Last week I got the honor to teach my peers in ED 425: Educational of the Exceptional Child: on “Inclusive Pathways: A Unified Champion Schools Approach in Higher Education Practices.”

To start the class, we started with a restorative practice with my peers that got them up and actively listening to one another as they answered questions on a beach ball! A simple, yet fun and engaging activity!

After that activity, they got to learn about Unified Champion Schools and what it means at the College/University level! — it was definitely a shameless plug opportunity for Special Olympics Concordia College Club!

Then that led into my main guiding purpose and teaching for teaching inclusive pathways with Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® Inclusion Tiles & Inclusion F.E.E.L.S Tiles!

Their objectives were to:
a) Organize an Inclusive Pathway using the Inclusion Tiles
b) Relate and support their reasoning with the F.E.E.L.S Tiles on the inclusive pathway that the groups formulated.

My peers were super engaged and got them spread out all around the classroom! They were critically thinking as to what the pathway would look like and what emotion would correlate with a certain inclusion tile.

They also got the chance to briefly learn about specific activists from Special Olympics Minnesota activist poster series which included: Ed Roberts, Rosa Marcellino, Judy Heumann, Lois Curtis, Brad Lomax, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Loretta Claiborne, and Frank Stephens.

To wrap up class, they signed out Spread the Word to End the Word campaign banner that Concordia has! They also took the online pledge as well!

Overall, all of my peers were actively engaged, moving around the classroom, and the entire time technology free until they signed the online pledge! Super grateful to have shared this experience with my peers and teach them about the niche practices I have learned through my experiences with Special Olympics
