I HAVE COMPLETED 1st GRADE!!!
After completing an extensive practicum, I have accumulated 108 hours and 25 minutes of observation, learning, and teaching experience. As a preservice teacher, I learned so much by putting theory into practice! Although we were told to come in on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, I made it a goal to better myself as a preservice teacher and go in every day! I can say that I am very proud to come out of this practicum with so much experience!
I learned that my teaching style is heavily influenced by gamification and movement, as I incorporated activities such as word hunts, 4 corners, and letter scrambles throughout my lessons.
I also learned that while putting together a lesson plan, it is very hard to get the timing down because you don't know how the students will behave or participate during lessons. But, finding a balance in your day or week to take away something is ok, but bring the learning back that you missed in another day and spend more time on it.
I am beyond grateful to have had such a great mentor teacher, Sarah Klemetson, to learn and grow from! Sarah, the feedback you provided was truly helpful as it made me think of things for the next lesson or something to always be thinking about, even if you've been teaching for almost 15 years! Your team of first-grade teachers was also so amazing! Seeing behind the scenes of many full days of teaching really gave insight into how teachers manage so many things... yet still can't seem to get everything done! ;) Thank you for letting me into your classroom for the past four weeks and teaching a variety of lessons! I had a blast coming in every day! I will miss you and the class!
This is not the end, but I am getting close to it! Student teaching for me is coming in FALL 2026! But before that, I have another practicum to attend!
