Way to represent Minnesota State Moorhead, Danelle!

This Monday, we recognize Danelle Wolnik. Danelle is an Army National Guard spouse of 15 years and a proud mother of three. For 13 of those years, they were a dual-military family, balancing their children’s activities with drill weekends, annual training, TDYs, and the demands of everyday life. As a family, they deeply value their time together, whether they are traveling the country or spending their summers at the lake with family and friends.
Danelle’s 24 years of service, combined with her perspective as a military spouse and a passion for supporting others, led naturally to her role as the Assistant Veterans Resource Outreach Director at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Her transition from the North Dakota Army National Guard to the Dragon community reflects MSUM’s mission of helping veterans find their "new normal." Through authentic connections and targeted outreach, their team pairs military-connected students with meaningful resources, ensuring they feel understood, supported, and empowered to achieve their future goals. 💪💙

Freedom is not free. 🇺🇸✨

Today, on National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, we pause to honor the incredible heroes of the Korean War. From 1950 to 1953, American troops endured extreme terrain, harsh winters, and fierce combat to defend liberty on the Korean Peninsula. Today marks the anniversary of the 1953 armistice that paused the fighting, a day to ensure that the legacy of those who served is passed down to future generations.

If you have a Korean War veteran in your family or community, take a moment to thank them today. Let's make sure their stories, their bravery, and their sacrifices are always remembered.

Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸✨

Today, we come together to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As we enjoy the parades, backyard barbecues, and fireworks with family and friends, we also pause to reflect on the core ideals that unite us: liberty, opportunity, and freedom.

We owe a debt of gratitude to the generations of service members, veterans, and military families who have sacrificed so much to protect these freedoms and defend our republic.

Last week, Aaron and Josh had the opportunity to sit down with Minnesota Military Radio to discuss programming for military-connected students at Minnesota State Moorhead. They highlighted our Veteran Success Program, Yellow Ribbon Advance initiatives, the Dragon Student Veterans Club, and Dragon Valor training. They also got to share inspiring success stories of students thriving in education and careers.

Not all wounds are visible. 🩵

Today, June 27, is National PTSD Awareness Day. It's a day dedicated to shedding light on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, raising public understanding, and crushing the stigma that keeps people from seeking care.

Trauma changes the brain's wiring, making it incredibly hard to feel safe even long after the danger has passed. Whether it stems from military combat, an accident, or personal violence, living with PTSD is an everyday test of resilience.

The single best tool we have to help those affected is a strong, understanding support network. Let your friends, family members, and colleagues know that their struggles are valid, their stories matter, and asking for help is a sign of profound strength.

Let's look out for one another today and every day.

Happy Birthday to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary! 🇺🇸⚓

Established by Congress on June 23, 1939, the Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the Coast Guard. For 87 years, these dedicated volunteers have committed their time, skills, and resources to keeping our waterways safe, conducting search and rescue missions, and providing crucial boating safety education to the public.

To the more than 20,000 Auxiliarists who serve our communities and support the "Semper Paratus" mission every single day—thank you for your selfless service and vigilance.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, Allied federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that all enslaved people were finally freed.

Today, we observe Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Jubilee Day. It is a vital moment in our nation's history to reflect on the long, enduring journey toward liberty, justice, and equality.

It's a day for celebration, reflection, and community. From backyard gatherings and parades to supporting local Black-owned businesses and sharing stories, today honors a legacy of incredible strength, joy, and resilience.
