As new Cobbers settle into their home at Concordia each fall, the goal isn’t just to help them find their place on campus but also to introduce them to the wider Fargo-Moorhead community. For more than 30 years, the Orientation team has facilitated this introduction in a unique and special way: Hands for Change.

“It is part of Concordia’s mission statement to influence the affairs of the world, to be in solidarity with one another, with our communities, and with our world. Hands for Change is the first attempt to ask new Cobbers what it means to be an engaged citizen and how they plan to get there.”

Sunet Rubalcava
Assistant Director of the Center for Student Success

After being inspired to make positive changes to the experience for new Cobbers, Sheerah Paintsil ’27 applied to be the 2026 Orientation Chair.

“A big part of my role is constantly thinking about how we can make Orientation even better. I look at feedback from previous years, listen to what students wanted more of, and work with others across campus to create an experience that feels exciting and meaningful. At the end of the day, my biggest goal is for every new student to feel like they have a place at Concordia, get a real sense of what college is like, and leave Orientation ready for everything that’s ahead. I’m also just really excited to meet this year’s incoming class!”

Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and West Fargo, North Dakota
