The 2026–2027 school year is here, and our Mooresville Graded School District buses will officially be back on the road Wednesday morning! 🚌

Let’s work together to keep every MGSD student safe by remembering North Carolina’s school bus stopping laws:

🟥 Two-Lane Roads: Traffic in BOTH directions must stop.
🟥 Two-Lane with a Center Turn Lane: Traffic in BOTH directions must stop.
🟥 Four Lanes (No Median): Traffic in BOTH directions must stop.
🟨 Divided Highway (with a Median/Barrier): Only traffic following the bus must stop. Opposite traffic may proceed with caution.
🟨 Four or More Lanes (with Center Turn Lane): Only traffic following the bus must stop.

Passing a stopped school bus carries a minimum $500 fine, heavy license points, and significantly increased insurance premiums for three years in NC.

⭐️South Family…. Please join us in welcoming Brandy Sigmon, who will be joining our 1st and 2nd grade teams as a Teacher Assistant.

“Hello everyone! I’m so excited to return to South Elementary, the place where my teaching career began in 2006! Since then I have taught 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, Pre-k and most recently served as a math tutor at MIS. My husband and I are MHS graduates and we have a Sophomore and a 7th Grader in MGSD. In our free time we can usually be found at a baseball field or golf course. I’m looking forward to a great year as a K/1 Teacher Assistant!”

🏡Our theme for the year at South Elementary is “Treehouses…. Keep growing, keep climbing!” Our halls are decked, the pencils are sharpened…. The only thing missing is our South ⭐️s! Happy first day of school everyone!
