Pine Lake Preparatory marked a major milestone Friday with a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new academic building, representing the next step in the schoolβs Building the Future initiative!
Faculty and staff and their children, builder representatives, and board members gathered on campus to celebrate the start of construction immediately following the last (half) day of school to turn the first ceremonial shovels of dirt.
The 26,450-square-foot academic building will add 13 classrooms, 10 offices, a large meeting space and a student-run coffee shop and school store. The facility will support the school's expanding programs.
Fridayβs ceremony represents more than the start of construction; it reflects a long-term investment in the future of Pine Lake Students. The Building the Future initiative focuses on ensuring the campus continues to meet the evolving needs of its students, staff and programs for years to come.
While Fridayβs groundbreaking focused on the academic building, it is part of a broader long-term vision that also includes future enhancements to athletic facilities.
Construction will begin immediately, with completion expected in Summer 2027.
We are so thankful to families, staff and donors whose ongoing support has helped bring this vision to life.

In 2015, as a Lower School art teacher, Mrs. Leslie Clegg welcomed new kindergarten students, Lucas and Chase, on their very first day at Pine Lake Prep. She was photographed with them as they began their school journey, and that photo was selected among a stack of photos sent to the Mooresville Tribune to run on the front page.
Mrs. Clegg hoped to recreate that same photo during their senior year graduation, but she is retiring this year to spend more time traveling with her husband and visiting family. She recreated the photo recently as they prepare to enter 11th grade.
"The photo represents more than just a comparison across the years, it reflects the joy of watching students grow up within one school community and the lasting connections formed between students and teachers over time," Mrs. Clegg said, adding, "There is something very special about being able to teach young children and then continue watching them mature into thoughtful young adults."
"For me personally, the recreated photo symbolizes both a full-circle moment in my career and the relationships that make Pine Lake Prep such a unique place to teach and learn."
Mrs. Clegg, the PLP community is so grateful for the countless students you inspired to look at the world around them, looking for the beauty and life lessons!
