NAD IN ROTTWEILERS :
A little bit of information on (NAD) Neuroaxonal Dystrophy is preventable with a DNA test, $130.00 from UC Davis, it is INCURABLE, please make sure any puppy bought has at least one parent CLEAR of this Fatal disease!!
Neuroaxonal dystrophy (NAD) in Rottweilers is an inherited, progressive, and fatal neurological disorder, usually manifesting in young adults (6-18 months) with symptoms like wobbly, drunken gait (ataxia), tremors, and eye movements. It is caused by a recessive mutation in the VPS11 gene. There is no treatment, making genetic testing crucial for prevention.
Key Aspects of NAD in Rottweilers
Symptoms: Affected dogs exhibit a progressive, uncoordinated, high-stepping gait, postural deficits, intention tremors, and nystagmus (involuntary eye movement).
Cause: A recessive genetic mutation in the Vacuolar Protein Sorting 11 (VPS11) gene.
Progression: The disease is degenerative and progressive, often leading to severe disability by 1-2 years of age.
Inheritance: It is an autosomal recessive disorder, meaning a puppy must inherit the mutation from both parents to be affected.
Diagnosis and Testing: While confirmed via autopsy (showing axonal spheroids), DNA tests can identify carriers and affected dogs.
Management and Prevention
There is no treatment for NAD, and affected dogs are generally humanely euthanized. Breeders can prevent this disease by testing parents and ensuring that at least one parent is clear of the mutation.

Hi Everyone
The time has come, what we have been waiting for… Piper IS a candidate for surgery! What this means, they will remove her T8&T9 disc joint
She will still be crooked but will never progress and get any worse than she is now. There are many risks with doing the surgery but none so great to warrant not doing it as not doing it she will continue to get worse and will end up paralyzed and complete loss of bowels and urine and that will happen sooner than later.
Dr Fauber is a great surgeon and feels she can successfully do this surgery. Recovery is long and a bit rough as she is only 18 months old and not going to want to stay still but we feel the risk is and will be worth the reward
ARFF at this time is asking for any and all donations that anyone can find in their heart to make to help Piper to get this surgery.
Approx cost is $7,000 and Piper needs all the help she can get. Please we are begging, no amount is too small to help Piper.
I have included our Venmo and Cashapp and PayPal for anyone that would like an alternative way to donate
Thanking you in advance for your kind generosity in helping Piper♥️
