The Joy of Reading: Media Coordinator Spotlight! 📚

It only makes sense that our Mooresville Intermediate School Media Center and Library Coordinator would have a joy of reading! Ms. Kristina Thoennes not only loves books and reading, but she helps our students discover their own favorite stories every single day!

For Ms. Thoennes, some of her fondest childhood reading memories come from a beautiful, whimsical valley in Finland created by author Tove Jansson.

"I have warm memories of reading Moomintroll books by Tove Jansson," Ms. Thoennes shares. "The characters had strong, unique personalities and the stories were full of whimsical adventures."

Before they became a global phenomenon, the Moomins taught generations of readers about family, kindness, and celebrating what makes everyone unique. It’s no surprise that a love for such deeply imaginative and character-driven stories led Ms. Thoennes to a career dedicated to putting the perfect book into the hands of our MIS students!

Hello Bobcat families,

My name is Dewey Bustle, and I am excited to start this new chapter at MIS as an Assistant Principal. I have been in education for 16 years, with the last 10 years being at Mooresville High School as a math teacher, coach, athletic director, and assistant principal. My wife works in the school district as well, and we have two children who attend MGSD schools. I’m very excited to serve MIS families this year and join the Bobcat family.

Hi my name is Shannon Callery and I am a teachers assistant at MIS! My husband Joe and I have two boys Brenden(23) and Patrick(11).We moved to North Carolina from Boston going on 3 years ago and we absolutely love it here..When I am not at work I am just simply spending time with my family..I am looking forward to another year working with such an amazing team!

Hello Bobcat Families! My name is Breana Pavenski, and I am beyond excited to be teaching 3rd Grade at MIS this upcoming school year. I recently moved from Davidson County, where I taught for 10 years. Originally from New Jersey, I graduated from High Point University in 2017 with my Masters in Education focusing in STEM. My first love is teaching, but my fiancé and our two dogs, Rambo and Hagrid, make a close second. I look forward to learning and growing with your child next school year!

Hello, my name is Ashlyn Allen! I grew in the Mooresville Graded School District and am a graduate of Mooresville High School and App State. I am married to my wonderful husband, Avery! I have worked with students in the past but this is my first year teaching and I am SO excited! I have always been passionate about art and cannot wait to share that passion with students! I cannot wait to create a classroom where students feel loved, accepted and free to express their creativity! Let’s go Bobcats!

Hi MIS community! My name is Ericka Juárez, and I am so excited to be joining Mooresville Intermediate School this year! I am originally from the beautiful and diverse Panama City. I graduated from the University of Panama and received teacher training at a lovely university in England. I love traveling and learning about different cultures, so I feel especially excited to share my language and traditions with my students this year. I cannot wait to help my students learn, grow, and create wonderful memories together at MIS.
