The NC Oyster Trail isn’t just about oysters - we showcase clam growers too! Hooper Family Seafood grows hard and sunray venus clams on their farm overlooking Cape Lookout National Seashore and Core Sound. Visit their farm, where the Hoopers themselves will show you how to harvest and grade these shellfish. You can even try your luck with the bull rake! They have a wonderful spot on the water and can steam up harvested clams to enjoy afterwards. 😋

🦪🩵 May marks the start of oyster spawning season.
From late spring through early fall, warmer water temperatures signal oysters to begin spawning. This process creates the next generation of oysters that help grow wild oyster populations. Tiny oyster larvae released into the water eventually settle onto hard surfaces, typically other oyster shells, where they strengthen existing reefs and support marine life and coastal habitats. 🦪
