One Community is not a tagline.

It is a program director who picked up the phone for a stranger because someone once did it for them. A student who went further because this community decided to go further first. Moments that rarely make the newsletter but shape everything.

Those are the stories The One Community Podcast is going to tell.

Produced with Vet Life Reimagined. Hosted by Megan Sprinkle. Launching at the AVTE Annual Conference in Portland this August.

๐ŸŽ‰ Welcome, Class of 2028!

Today we had the pleasure of meeting our newest Veterinary Technology students during orientation! We are excited to welcome the Class of 2028 and begin this journey with you.

Over the next two years, you will gain the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to become compassionate, competent veterinary technicians. There will be challenges, growth, memories, and plenty of opportunities to make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

We canโ€™t wait to see all that you accomplish. Welcome to the Vet Tech family! ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ ๐Ÿฉบ

In the Winter 2026 JAVTE, Brandie Johnson, RVT, LVT reviews Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, 3rd Edition by Deborah Silverstein and Kate Hopper.

As a training and education coordinator at a busy emergency and specialty hospital, Johnson uses it daily, for everything from technician rounds to building internal protocols. She praises its systems-based format, evidence-based approach, and ability to make complex ECC topics accessible to students and experienced technicians alike.

A strong recommendation for any vet tech educator or hospital training program.

Who changed your trajectory in this profession?

A mentor who saw something in you before you saw it yourself. A colleague who shared what was working even when they did not have to. That is One Community in action.

AVTE and Vet Life Reimagined are launching The One Community Podcast, and we are building our episode list right now. We want stories from this community, told by the people who lived them.

If you have one, we want to hear it. Submissions are open.

Molly Ellis, RVT, is leading a hands-on RECOVER BLS/ALS Rescuer Certification course on Sunday, August 2 from 10am - 4pm at the AVTE 2026 Annual Conference in Portland, Oregon.

Built around the internationally recognized RECOVER CPR Guidelines, the course combines online prereq work with in-person skills training covering chest compressions, ventilation, ALS principles, and team communication during CPR events.

This is designed for vet techs, educators, assistants, and students who want emergency skills they can actually use. Certification is included for participants who complete all requirements. Once you submit your registration, we will send you a discount code for the online prerequisite that you must complete before the in-person course.

The One Community Podcast has a host, and we could not be more excited.

Megan Sprinkle, founder of Vet Life Reimagined, will guide every conversation in our new ten-episode series. Megan built her platform on the belief that veterinary professionals deserve to have their stories heard. She asks the questions that find the story we all share.

Know a story worth telling? Submit it.

Many online vet tech students struggle to retain what they've learned by the time they reach clinical externships.

Laura Switkowski, LVT, RVT, BAS, MS tackled that problem with a structured handwritten journal assignment, requiring students to draw diagrams, outline step-by-step procedures, and cite their sources each week. By semester's end, students have a personalized study tool they carry into clinicals and use for VTNE prep.
