Last stop on this tour was the University of Memphis! 16,000 undergraduates populate this urban campus and study business, arts and sciences, engineering, nursing and commercial aviation. Most students hail from Tennessee. Check out the robot delivering food 😊 Go Tigers!

We visited two schools in the city of Memphis. Check out the stunningly beautiful campus of Rhodes College. This small liberal arts college has 1,800 undergraduates, a lot of diversity, and offers 12 high impact programs, including summer science lab work with St. Jude’s Hospital and music business oriented internships. Students can join Greek life and participate in many strong athletic programs. Go Lynx!

The last SEC school on our tour was Mississippi State in Starkville. 19,000 undergraduates call MSU home, with 38% from out of state, and it’s “big enough to be in the SEC but small enough to know the students’ names”. Engineering, business, agriculture, architecture and kinesiology are top programs. Hail State!

Next up is Alabama State University in the capital city of Montgomery. One of 14 HBCUs in Alabama, ASU has 3,500 undergraduates and strong programs in education, health sciences, forensics and business. The Mighty Marching Hornets band is highly acclaimed, and the school has a rich connection to the Civil Rights Movement. Go Hornets!

Another iconic stop on the tour was the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Ole Miss is home to 22,000 undergraduates, one of the smaller SEC schools. Students here enjoy a midsized school vibe and many signature competitive programs, including the school of accountancy, Honors College, and the Trent Lott Leadership Institute. Check out “The Grove”, one of the top football tailgating areas, a huge green space right in the center of campus. Go Rebels!

We also had the opportunity to visit UAB, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, part of the 3 campus Alabama system. Smaller than Tuscaloosa with 14,000 undergraduates, UAB has an urban campus and is known for engineering, nursing and strong STEM majors. Out of staters are often drawn to their honors college and early acceptance BS/MD program. Go Blazers!

A southern tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. 35,000 undergraduates call this pristine campus home, with 65% from out of state. Next stop is Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. This unapologetically Christian school has 4,200 undergraduates with 75% from out of state. Check out the beautiful campus! Students study business, arts and sciences, education, music and other subjects and participate in Greek life and service in the local community. Go Bulldogs!

Last week I had the pleasure of participating in an awesome 5 day IECA tour of nine Southern colleges and universities. First up is Auburn University, home to 28,000 undergraduates in Auburn, Alabama, with 40% from out of state. Engineering programs are strong, and they offer over 150 majors across business, arts and sciences, human sciences, pharmacy and architecture. Football is huge - Go Tigers and War Eagle!

I had the opportunity to visit the University of California - Irvine earlier this week. Home to 30,000 undergraduate students, this campus is located in a beautiful suburban area in sunny southern CA, not far from the beach. It boasts strong programs in biological sciences, computer science, nursing, engineering, pharmacy, and the performing arts. Go Anteaters!

I also visited Montclair State last week, located in Montclair, NJ. This public university has 18,000 undergraduates and strong programs in business, arts and sciences, performing arts, education and health professions. They also offer many combined bachelors/master’s programs. Go Red Hawks!

Last week I had a great visit to NJIT, the NJ Institute of Texhnology, in Newark. What a hidden gem for all things STEM related! Their 9,500 undergraduates study engineering, business, computing, science and architecture and design. NJIT has the largest Makerspace in NJ at 21,000 sf. Go Highlanders!
