Hello friends! 👋🏻☀️ It’s been a while since I’ve shared an update. As many of you know, Bright Bridge moved out of its previous location at the end of last summer with the plan to work on finding a larger space to move into to expand the program. As so often happens, we make plans without knowing what opportunities may arise in the meantime! I was offered the opportunity to work with NIEER, the National Institute of Early Education Research, with Rutgers University, conducting observations and assessments of pre-k classrooms around South Jersey, and I have been absolutely loving this role. I love being able to observe so many different classrooms and fellow early childhood educators, knowing that my work is used to provide feedback to schools and the NJ DOE to ensure all of our children have the highest quality early childhood classroom experience possible. While I of course miss teaching your little ones, I’m enjoying this unexpected role and will continue to teach at Perkins Center for the Arts! Thank you all for following and I look forward to continuing to connect with your family on social media, at Perkins, and out & about in our wonderful community! 🤍🍎🎨

This incredible shot deserves its own moment ✨ We love letting ourselves be free and really explore our art materials!! This is what happy looks like 🥰

What’s one way to add some pizzazz in a flash? Just. Add. GLITTER! ✨ We loved our story about a kid who absolutely loves glitter and it was so cool to feel the pages that had textured illustrations! We created some sparkle of our own by painting magical wooden star wands and then bedazzling them with glitter glue and sequins! 🪄 We loved imagining what kind of magic our glittery wands could do. 🤩

Just sittin on the dock of the bay! 🎣 We loved our singalong book of this classic song & we loved listening to the song after the book. 🎶 At centers we made fish resist paintings! 🐟 The fish cutouts were taped to our papers and we used sponge brushes to dab & press & smush the paint all over the paper and the fish…and when we removed the fish we found that the paint left behind a picture where we DIDN’T put paint!! 😮 What a fun way to explore creating art with negative space. 🎨 When our paint dried a little, we added collage pieces to really make our creations pop with texture! 😍

Let’s play a butterfly matching game! 🦋 Can you find the same shapes and mirror them on the other side of the butterfly? 🟡🟧🔷

This game presents a new challenge to matching because instead of 1:1 matching of one item right on top of its match, we are recreating an image we see but in a new location and in a blank space! 🦋 As we navigated this interesting new challenge, we created a very thoughtful system of starting by matching the shapes on the side with the picture and then sliding them over to the blank side…amazing problem solving!! 🧠💡😍

What do you know about caterpillars? 🐛 We read the classic book The Very Hungry Caterpillar this week! 😍

After we read, we retold the story on the felt board: we turned each page and found the clip with the picture that was next. Then we clipped each one to the caterpillar in the order it happened in the book! 🍐🍓🧁🦋

Retelling & referring to a book are important early literacy skills, as is sequencing…not to mention the fine motor challenge of clipping the small clothespins to the caterpillar! 🍊🍭🌱🐛

It’s Eid al-Fitr! 🌙 The month of Ramadan has come to an end and is marked by the holiday Eid al-Fitr. Holidays are a great way to introduce the concept of a multicultural world and the many special ways families are the same & different from one another. 🥰

To recognize this holiday today we read a Ramadan & Eid story and made an Eid lantern! 🌙💫 We stuck tissue paper pieces in the sticky windows of the lantern & sealed it in with more contact paper…hold it up to the window & see the beautiful colorful light stream through! 😍🌈 ✨
