Hardy County Schools has some exciting news to celebrate!

Mary Catherine Slack, Family and Consumer Science Teacher at Moorefield High School and our 2025–2026 Hardy County Schools Professional Educator of the Year, has been named West Virginia’s recipient of the 2025–2026 FCCLA Spirit of Advising Award—a prestigious national honor recognizing outstanding FCCLA advisers across the country.

This award is given to just one adviser per state, and it speaks volumes about the impact Mary Catherine has on her students every single day. Through her leadership of FCCLA, she goes far beyond the classroom, mentoring students, building confidence, and preparing them for success in life, career, and leadership.

We are incredibly proud of the way she represents Moorefield High School, Hardy County Schools, and the state of West Virginia.

Mary Catherine will be recognized on July 9, 2026, at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., a well-deserved honor for someone who gives so much to her students and school community.

Over 28,000 DECA Members from around the world attended ICDC in Atlanta, GA. Networking, pin trading, personal growth, recognition and the strong foundation that this young group return with is invaluable for their futures and the future of MHS DECA.

The Certificate of Excellence is Awarded to competitors who achieve a 70% or higher combined total score on their preliminary competition components (test and role play).
