Looking forward to the release of my recording of, “The Vanishing Family” by Robert Kolker for Penguin Random House.

About the book: From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of ‘Hidden Valley Road’ comes the heart-wrenching journey of a family facing an unthinkable destiny, whose flawed genetic code might hold the long-sought key to a cure for dementia.

In the idyllic American town of Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania, there lived a family with nine siblings, the youngest a girl named Barb. As the older children headed off to college and started their lives, only Barb was home to see their beautiful, still-young mother fall under a gothic spell, changing into someone she didn’t recognize: withdrawn, neglectful, uncaring. Thus begins The Vanishing Family, journalist Robert Kolker’s superb follow-up to Hidden Valley Road (“Deeply compassionate and chilling,” wrote The Washington Post). This family, we learn, has a genetic mutation that causes dementia, but with an especially cruel twist. As early as their forties, formerly loving parents and hard-driving executives will lose their jobs, have affairs, take up drinking—shed all inhibitions and sense of responsibility—and become people their families hardly know. Their former personalities seem to vanish—and there is a fifty-fifty chance that it will happen to their children, too.

A bit about Jerry: Jerry Grant spent three decades teaching English and Communication in high schools and
community college. He has a BA in Speech-Communication, a BS in Secondary English and Speech Education, a M.Ed. in Education, and a MA in Communication. Versatility is his strength. High school hockey and soccer coaching, student newspaper advising, and managing of a daily student broadcast taught Jerry organizational skills.

A love for books started as a child reading comic books and evolved as a teacher of literature. He is passionate about sharing excitement for books with like-minded audiobook listeners. He is a recent graduate of Sean Pratt’s one-year audiobook performance and business class.

You can find Jerry broadcasting high school sports on cable TV, taking divots while having a good walk spoiled on a golf course, or practicing improv with other goofballs when he is not narrating books.

Every Sunday, my family gets together for dinner and cards. While playing, we laugh, yell, and insult each other with gusto…Mom included! Trust me, it’s cheaper than going to a family therapy session. Sadly, it was my turn to take home “Bodkin - The Loser Pig”

Just put the finishing touches on my recording of, “The Stories We Live By: Seven Cultural Myths That Fail Us and the Story That Never Will” by Timothy & Michael Keller for Harper Audio & Zondervan Publishers.

About the book: We are the stories we believe. But what if our culture's stories are failing us? The Stories We Live By reveals the hidden cultural narratives that shape us and points the way to the life we've been looking for.

"Do what makes you happy." "Be true to yourself." "Live free." If these slogans promise the good life, why do they so often leave us feeling hollow and empty? Could the very stories our modern world tells us about happiness, freedom, and identity be the source of our growing anxiety and disillusionment?

The culmination of a journey Michael Keller began with his father, beloved pastor and bestselling author Timothy Keller, before his passing, The Stories We Live By unmasks the hidden cultural narratives that shape our lives, often without our knowledge. Examining seven dominant narratives of modern culture--concerning identity, power, freedom, morality, truth, happiness, and progress--the authors show how these stories contain elements of truth yet are built on flawed assumptions and internal contradictions that leave us fragile, divided, and unable to cope with the realities of life.

It’s release day for my recording of, “Kingpins and Coyotes - 25 Years as a Special Agent Hunting Drug Cartel Bosses and Human Smugglers” by Eric Balliet.

About the book: Special Agent Eric Balliet worked in the shadows of the US–Mexico border—tracking cartel bosses, chasing human traffickers, locking up drug smugglers, confiscating truckloads of drugs, and prosecuting the violent offenders who sustained billion-dollar criminal empires.

His career culminated in a covert operation that brought down the world's most notorious drug kingpin: Sinaloa Cartel boss El Chapo—twice.
