Dear MPS Families,

Many of the MPS school campuses and our bus routes continue to struggle with ice in neighborhoods, at main intersections, on campus and neighborhood sidewalks, and in parking lots. This creates dangerous conditions for our students, families, and staff.

Due to continued unsafe travel conditions and campus safety issues, students will have a Virtual Learning Day on Thurs., Feb. 20. Please watch for teacher instructions.

Currently, extracurricular activities, including athletics, are canceled for Thurs., Feb. 20. We will revisit this area tomorrow morning.

Dear MPS Families,

Our state and district continue to feel the impact of this week’s winter storm. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts winter precipitation, such as freezing drizzle, sleet, and snow, to continue through late this evening. Travel impacts will likely continue across most of the warning area, including our school district, into Wednesday morning. The NWS notes that the onset of extremely cold and dangerous conditions has begun, with the cold front moving through our area faster than previous forecasts. The Extreme Cold Warning is now in effect through Thursday.

For the safety of our students and MPS employees, students will have a Virtual Learning Day on Wed., Feb. 19.

Please watch for instructions from teachers. Extracurricular activities, including athletics, have been canceled for Wednesday, as well.

Precipitation is expected Tuesday morning with travel conditions deteriorating throughout the afternoon as temperatures drop.

Dear MPS Families,

The MPS Administration team has traveled approximately 160 square miles of our district throughout today, scanning for safety issues that could impact our students and employees. Although some of our district neighborhoods appear to be clear, some of our 35 school campus sites have iced sidewalks, walkways, parking lots, and entrances, and there are still dangerous routes and roadways for our transportation team.

Additionally, we have multiple open campus sites, which creates a safety risk for students and employees when moving about campus is required. The temperatures will dip again tonight, creating unsafe driving conditions for our buses, especially in some district neighborhoods.

For the safety of our students and employees, students will have a Virtual Learning Day on Thurs., Feb. 13. Please look for instructions from teachers. Decisions about Feb. 13 afternoon and evening athletics and extracurricular activities will be announced Thursday afternoon.
