Another level completed with the phenomenal Swim Angelfish ! I have completed level three and have already purchased level four.

I share my passion for this program constantly. I am a big believer in their mission. Their training videos are top notch. Real world experiences with real time commentary and voice overs explaining the reasoning behind every move! I would love to see more Adapted PE specialists moving through this programming. I would also love to see more rural parks and rec folks in the swim space or adaptive side take this training.

I’m excited to share that I’ll be speaking at the Colorado Parks & Recreation Association Conference! 🎤

I’ll be presenting:

Starting Small, Thinking Big: How Rural Parks & Rec Can Build Adaptive Programs

I’ll be sharing the real story of how we’ve built adaptive and inclusive recreation opportunities at the Montrose Recreation District—including what worked, what didn’t, how we built partnerships, and how we’ve grown programs without a huge budget or a dedicated adaptive recreation department.

One of my biggest goals is to show other small and rural communities that you don’t have to have everything figured out to get started. Sometimes you just have to start with what you have, build relationships, and take the next step.

I’m especially excited to connect with other parks and recreation professionals who are working to make their communities more inclusive and accessible. I’ll bring plenty of real examples, practical ideas, and probably a few stories about things that definitely did NOT go according to plan.

Can’t wait to learn, share, and connect with everyone at the conference! 💙

Adapted PE teacher or Adaptive Program Leader? I am both and this is how my mini van looks during a busy season. Between providing services and leading programming the vehicle is very full. Most of this gear is headed to storage as we get ready for a new rec district facility.

The Montrose Recreation District celebrated our first Special Olympics Cycling Season! We took 5 athletes to regionals at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway. It was hot, but our athletes were ready to burn up the track no matter the temps.

The Montrose Recreation District Special Olympics Golf team competed at Lincoln Park in Grand Junction today. Great work by all! We had a rocky season with the smoke form the fires but we are proud of the effort by all.

Today the Montrose Recreation District hosted Special Olympics Colorado for an Athlete Leadership University Class. We spent the day exploring what leadership is and our goals.

Several Rec district staff and our volunteer Special Olympics Coaches joined in the afternoon to learn more about how we can continue to have an inclusive mindset in all aspects of programming, accessibility, and hiring 💙
