The Montrose Recreation District celebrated our first Special Olympics Cycling Season! We took 5 athletes to regionals at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway. It was hot, but our athletes were ready to burn up the track no matter the temps.

The Montrose Recreation District Special Olympics Golf team competed at Lincoln Park in Grand Junction today. Great work by all! We had a rocky season with the smoke form the fires but we are proud of the effort by all.

Today the Montrose Recreation District hosted Special Olympics Colorado for an Athlete Leadership University Class. We spent the day exploring what leadership is and our goals.

Several Rec district staff and our volunteer Special Olympics Coaches joined in the afternoon to learn more about how we can continue to have an inclusive mindset in all aspects of programming, accessibility, and hiring 💙

The Montrose Recreation District adaptive program participated with the Glenwood Springs Parks and Rec program and Challenge Aspen to gather over 52 attendees for their 3rd Annual Inclusive Beginner Rafting Adventure which celebrates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act!

We love this adventure and even a mudslide couldn't stop us from attending! Join us next year as we do it again!

Thank you all so much for an incredible weekend of adaptive pickleball and wheelchair racing at the Montrose Recreation District

My biggest takeaway was that what we are building as a community is truly incredible and making a huge impact on the Western Slope! I laughed and cried my way through this weekend. Shout-out to the Montrose High School Track team for their volunteering and for thinking of the little details to make the event special. Thank you to the Montrose Pickleball Community for showing up in huge numbers to help run the tournament, play in the tournament, set up lunch, and tear down the entire event! Wow! I am in awe of y'all, it was truly seamless!

Thank you to Julie Faucett and Kirk Orahood for pushing me to learn a new sport and bring it to the MRD adaptive realm. Your constant support has been the driving force behind every clinic and this event. Thank you to Kent and Tresa Davenport, Maxine Leet Behrman, and Peggy Mewes for reffing today. Cheers to those who played in the tournament, from the wheelchair athletes to partners! It was competitive and fun. I have not laughed so hard in months!
