Please join us remotely on Wednesday, August 19th at 8pm EST
This session will be focused on writing for guitar. Oren Neiman is a VCFA student, composer, and guitarist who features the instrument prominently in his compositions and works as a freelance guitar player mainly in the Jazz, Theater and Jewish music world in New York.
Join us for a fun exploration of the joys and pitfalls of writing for guitar - A weirdly tuned instrument with many different accepted modes of writing depending on your style/genre of choice! We will look at different scores that I have encountered over the years as a guitar player, and discuss the more successful ones and how to make the most effective choices when composing for guitar yourself. I will share some examples of guitar playing in different genres/styles and how to best represent them on the page.
We will also go over some extended techniques and different things that the guitar does really well and we can use to our advantage as composers.
There will be time for questions and I am also happy to be put on the spot and look at/play through anything that people would like feedback on.
This event is free and open to all but you must register using the LINK IN BIO.
