Day 3 of the VCFA Writers’ Conference is here, and it has already been such a full and beautiful experience.
We feel so lucky to have our participants filling the halls of CalArts with joy, generosity, and community. Over the last few days, we’ve heard brilliant authors share what it means to give yourself permission to write, explored what it means to be lucky and to stay open to the opportunities that find us, worked through prompts that help us uncover truths we didn’t know existed within us, and gathered around workshop tables to dive deeply and generously into one another’s work.
And this truly is an all-hands-on-deck kind of community. Andrew, our president, has been right here with us, helping make the conference a wonderful experience in all sorts of ways, including making the rounds with the mic during Q&As. 🎤
Last night, we ended the day with a reading from one of our personal favorite writers, Brian Evenson, which felt like the perfect ending to another incredible day together.
And somehow, we’re only on Day 3. We can’t wait to see what the next few days bring. ❤️
Adam, our Conference Director knows how to capture a crowd with his legendary speeches.
We couldn’t believe our luck when Brian Evenson agreed to be our featured reader. We here at VCFA have a big author crush. Thanks Brian 📖
Andrew reminded us of the conferences brilliant history in Vermont previously led by Ellen Lesser and Kath Hubbard who built this warm and loving community we are so lucky to be apart of today.
Mansi, Sue, and Harrison dove into how we as writers can give ourself the permission to write. Write when it’s personal, write when people tell us not to, and most importantly to write when we are scared.
Andrew giving our team a much-appreciated break from mic duty! 🎤 We’re so grateful to have a president who is truly part of this community and who jumps in wherever he can to help make sure everyone has a wonderful conference experience.
