Another out-of-state lobbying group was back in court this week as part of a lawsuit against Vermonters for using more fuel to heat their homes and power their vehicles than a 2020 law allows. Many of us Vermonters are growing increasingly frustrated with national organizations exploiting our state to raise donations and promote their political agendas. These lawsuits do little to reduce emissions and everything to boost their influence and bottom line. It’s not climate action. It’s obstruction disguised as advocacy. Vermont deserves better.

Vermont businesses register about 6,000 new medium- and heavy-duty trucks annually. But if the state’s Clean Truck Regulations make diesel trucks too hard to buy here, those trucks won’t disappear—they’ll just be purchased and registered elsewhere. That means Vermont could lose $16 million yearly in Purchase & Use Tax and registration fees. Let's not drive business out of state. Let’s find a smarter path forward.
