My name is Casey Easterling and I co-own a cafe, bakery, and special event space called Grandma's Kitchen Arnot Mall .

Before moving to the area, I was a K-5 teacher in New York City for 16 years. My specialization is literacy. I am certified in Childhood Education for 1st-6th Grades and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) for grades K-12. I am trained in Orton Gillingham. I have two Masters Degrees from New York University, one in Literacy for birth - 6th Grade and another in Foreign Language Education and TESOL.

Hi! My name is Casey & I am one of the co-owners of Grandma's Kitchen in Montour Falls. On the 2nd floor above the cafe, I have a tutoring space called I Love Phonics Tutoring. I offer private & semi-private literacy tutoring there - in-person during the Spring, Summer, and Fall and virtual private lessons throughout the year.

This spring, I am interested in offering literacy small groups, if there is interest in the community. My passion is phonics. (I LOVE TEACHING PHONICS!) I also love working with kids who are struggling to learn to read.

Small groups would focus on phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, & writing. Small groups would meet for 75-minutes, either once or twice a week, depending on what the community would be interested in. I am available at times convenient for either homeschool or after school.

I am currently participating in an Orton-Gillingham Practicum with an OG Fellow at the Associate Level. I have completed the training (Classroom level twice, Associate level once) and have been teaching using OG methodology for about 10 years. I additionally have two education Masters Degrees from New York University, one in Literacy for birth - 6th Grade (that included teaching at the NYU Literacy Clinic) and another in Foreign Language Education & TESOL. I was a K-5 teacher in New York City for 16 years including 3 years as a Reading Coach. I am certified in Childhood Education for 1st-6th Grades & Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages for grades K-12.

- Private - $40/60-minute session (1:1 lessons planned specifically for your child)
- Semi-Private - $30/60-minute session (2:1 lessons planned based on the strengths & needs of both children)
- Small Group $20/75-minute session (5:1 lessons planned for a group of children with similar strengths & needs)

Highlights from yesterday's Junior Chef Day Camp presented by Grandma's Kitchen and I Love Phonics Tutoring! 10 kids attended and made and served a Five Course Dinner for their families! Each Junior Chef also got to sample their creations! The baking highlight seemed to be the focaccia and the sampling highlight seemed to be the macaroni and cheese! Thank you for coming everyone! It was an amazing day! We are so proud of you!

I just got my certificate for completing Orton-Gillingham training at the Associate Level! I am currently working on the Associate Level Practicum doing the 1:1 component. After that, I will begin the Small Group component of the Practicum. I am grateful to have been trained in Orton-Gillingham and Reading Reform 10 years ago on top of this and was able to use the content and skills learned in my classrooms in New York City. I cannot speak highly enough of the training I received while working on my Literacy Masters at New York University. My favorite professor, Kay Stahl, was incredible. (https://kaystahl.com) I also had the wonderful experience of being a Universal Literacy Reading Coach in New York City. I love learning and I have had so many wonderful opportunities to learn. I am so grateful for all of these experiences!

I have always loved sending mail! All of my tutoring clients have the option to participate in a Pen Pal program that is included with tutoring. I read an article when I was an ESL teacher about how helpful such an experience can be for students and I have done a Pen Pal program with my students every year since! New class for kids! Homeschool & After School Small Groups focusing on reading fluency and writing at the sentence and paragraph levels.

Various reading levels welcome. Sessions will begin with Readers Theater and will continue with writing instruction.

Tuesday, March 7, 14, 21, & 28 from 9am-11am or 4pm-6pm. $75 for 4 sessions.

Groups meet at I Love Phonics Tutoring located at 123 South Catherine Street, 2nd Floor, Montour Falls, above Grandma's Kitchen.

I had the opportunity to do this training at a school that I worked at about 10 years ago, but I took the course again so that I could continue on to the Associate Level and participate in a practicum, which leads to certification in the Orton-Gillingham Approach.
