As our summer camp has came to an end, I would like to acknowledge those that have made it such a success. First, thank you to our parents/guardians for entrusting us with your children! Next, thank you to my staff for all you have done. Camp would not be what it is if not for you. It doesn’t matter what crazy idea I came up with this group was always willing to make it work. Ideas like doing a flash mob during breakfast, giving middle school free reign on creating their own cupcakes, being free standing targets with water balloons, hours on school buses, or hiking over 3 miles with 157 stair steps climb just to name a few. They gave up four weeks of their summer to do this and so much more for the students. We hope everyone has a good remainder of summer and we look forward to seeing them back in August.

Our elementary students had a great last day on a field trip to Kentucky Down Under. Our students enjoyed exploring the cave, feeding the animals and mining for some gems.

What’s summer camp without getting a little wet? We took advantage of the warm weather and it being the last day of class work to have a little water balloon fun. We started with an old fashioned water balloon toss. Next, we had promised the students if they worked hard and showed growth on I-ready for the summer they would get to do something to the staff. Students were given a water balloon and got to pick which staff member was their target in which they had to stand still. Naturally, it is only fun if everyone gets a little wet so full on water balloon fight it was.

Since our heroes in training are reading about bows and arrows we thought our craft would be making their own arrows (crafts arrows not sharp). Students loved adding their own creative touch on the fletchings. We even helped one student celebrate his birthday. Happy Birthday J!

Our elementary students got a visit today from Lindsey Wilson University Archery coaches Anna and Taylor Bell. Since our story this week has a hero in training trying to figure out his power with a bow and arrows we thought it would be a great opportunity for students to hear from those who know a little about archery. They told how they both got started shooting when they were very young and how it led them to shoot at the collegiate level which led to the positions they are in today. Coach Anna even gave a shooting demonstration. The most important take away was encouraging the students to realize success doesn’t come easy, that it takes hard work, dedication and will power. Thank you for sharing with our students.

Things never slow down for 21st Century Summer Camp. Our day started out with a cup game challenge with the staff participating in as well. PT was “hungry hippo” student edition. The art for the day was students making their own torch.

Our middle school students had an experience in nature today for their final field trip by hiking to the Yahoo Arch and Yahoo Falls. We explored the natural formation of the rocks, discussed the folklore stories of history and discussed different trees and plants. The sites are definitely worth the hike.
