🚌 Getting to know Monticello!

As we prepare to welcome students back, our newest Monticello staff members are getting acquainted with the district and the community they’ll be serving!

Assistant Superintendent Michael Carpentieri recently led new staff members on a bus tour of Monticello, with stops at each of our district schools, the District Office and 17B.

The tour gave our newest Panthers a chance to see how the different parts of our district connect and to become more familiar with the schools, facilities and community that make up MCSD.

It’s just one of the many ways our staff are preparing for a great start to the 2026-27 school year. Welcome to Monticello! 💙🐾

Monticello High School seniors kicked off their final year together at the annual Senior BBQ! It was a great afternoon of food, fun and time spent with friends as the Class of 2027 gets ready for an exciting year ahead.

The difference is night and day, and the excitement is palpable. We can’t wait for the full 1,000-seat Panther Stadium to be complete!

💙Seven Monticello High School students proudly joined the ranks of MHS alumni during the district’s August graduation ceremony, officially completing the class of 2026.

Surrounded by family, friends, teachers and administrators, the graduates were recognized for the determination and perseverance that brought them to this milestone. Cheers and applause filled the room as each student crossed the stage and received their diploma.

Superintendent Dr. Matthew Evans, MHS Principal Jennifer Gorr and MHS Assistant Principal Robert Keesler addressed the graduates during the ceremony, commending them for their tenacity and encouraging them to carry that same determination with them into whatever comes next.

The August ceremony marked the final graduation celebration for the class of 2026, bringing the class together in accomplishment and adding seven more proud graduates to the Monticello alumni community.

🐾 Welcome to RJK, Panthers!

Robert J. Kaiser Middle School welcomed its incoming sixth graders this week for two days of Camp Panther!

Students got a head start on middle school by touring the building, finding their classrooms and specials, meeting staff and learning where important places like the Nurse’s Office, Guidance Office and Main Office are located. RJK staff and National Junior Honor Society members helped show our newest Panthers the ropes along the way.

Students also had some fun making their own tie-dyed Camp Panther shirts to wear on Fridays and show their school spirit!

Camp Panther is especially important as students from Emma C. Chase and Kenneth L. Rutherford come together for sixth grade, giving them a chance to meet new classmates and become comfortable in their new school before the first day.

When Jennifer Gorr took the helm as principal of Monticello High School, the first task on her list was to start conversations – with staff, with families and with students. One concern that came up repeatedly was discipline.

So, the MHS team began a deep dive into the school's discipline data, reviewing when, where, and why disciplinary incidents were happening, and evaluating how the team could prevent incidents, rather than reacting to them.

Two years later, the results of those conversations and strategy sessions are showing up in the data.

Out-of-school suspension referrals are down 57%.
Superintendent's Hearing referrals are down nearly 42%.
In-school suspension referrals are down 20%.

The rules haven't changed; the Code of Conduct and discipline matrix remain the same, but the approach has shifted from reactive to proactive.

Administrators greet students at the doors each morning. Staff use data to identify where problems are most likely to happen. Students are increasingly asking adults for help before conflicts escalate. And when expectations aren't met, administrators are working to respond quickly and consistently.

“We’re not more lenient, we’re more consistent,” Ms. Gorr said.

Ms. Lopez-Arroyo joins us as an elementary special education teacher, and Mr. McGowan joins us as middle school Biology teacher. 🐾💪
