Again, **nothing but positivity coming out of the Cougar Battalion!** 🐾🔥

This time, we’re proud to recognize **our very own Battalion Commander, C/LTC Ericah Gordon**, who has been selected as a **Senior Homecoming Maid** and will be in the running for **Homecoming Queen on September 18th!** 👑

Ericah represents so much of what we want our cadets to become—**leadership, confidence, character, commitment, and school pride.** Whether she’s leading the Battalion, representing JROTC, supporting her classmates, or simply setting the example, she continues to make her mark at Lawrence County High School.

This recognition is about more than a crown. It’s another accomplishment in a senior year that represents **years of hard work, growth, leadership, and service.**

Congratulations, Commander! We are extremely proud of you. Now go represent the **Cougar Battalion** on Homecoming Night the same way you always do—**with confidence, class, and excellence!**

What a Month… August 2026

I can’t stress enough how proud I am of these cadets.

I’m not saying that to excuse why I’m hard on them. But if you could see what I see from afar—the potential, the growth, and just how much these kids pour into this program—you’d understand why I refuse to lower the standard.

They’re balancing academics, sports, extracurricular activities, jobs, families, friendships, and all the challenges that come with simply being a high school student. Then they walk into JROTC, where we ask them to lead, perform, make decisions, accept responsibility, work as a team, and sometimes fail in front of everybody.

After five years as an instructor, I’ve learned something important: their biggest tests aren’t always taken on paper.

Their tests happen in real time.

When the Color Guard steps onto the floor.
When a cadet is placed in charge.
When the formation isn’t right.
When PT gets hard.
When somebody is depending on them.
When they make a mistake and have to recover.
When quitting would be easier—but they keep going.

That’s where I get to see what they’re becoming.

August was one hard month. We started with a group of kids and finished standing together as a Battalion.

And I know one thing for certain:

They are getting stronger. They are getting better. And we are just getting started.

JD is not only an outstanding young man, but a proven leader within our Cougar Battalion and across LCHS. His character, work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to lead by example continue to set him apart.

🌧️🐾 RAIN? WHAT RAIN?!

After yesterday’s Class A Battalion formation, today we changed gears!

The rain came down, the field got wet, and the Cougar Battalion took advantage of it! No perfect conditions needed. We got outside, loosened up, put in some PT, and finished the week the way we started it—TOGETHER and WORKING!

Sometimes training isn’t about going harder. Sometimes it’s about teaching these cadets that you adapt to the conditions, embrace a little discomfort, and keep moving.

After everything these kids accomplished this week, they earned a little fun in the rain!

🇺🇸 COUGAR BATTALION — THIS IS WHAT THE WORK LOOKS LIKE! 🐾

School started July 31st, and from Day One, we set out with an ambitious goal: build a Battalion, establish a standard, and create something these cadets could be proud of.

Today, it all came to bear.

It hasn't been easy. Drill. PT. Classroom instruction. Uniform preparation. Inspections. Sweat. Frustration. Yelling. Tough love. There were days they probably wondered what in the world I was trying to get out of them.

THIS. This is what I was trying to get out of them.

Today they stood together in formation, wearing their uniforms with pride and representing themselves, their families, their school, and the Lawrence County JROTC Cougar Battalion.

These kids are something special. They aren't perfect—and I don't expect them to be. But they work, learn, fail, recover, grow, and keep showing up.

And today, looking across that formation, I couldn't help but think about how far they've come in just over a month.

Cadets—you earned this moment.

I am incredibly proud of every single one of you.

# COUGAR BATTALION OPERATIONAL UPDATE

**End of Month One | School Year 2026–2027**

What a week—and what a way to close out our **first month of school!**

The **Lawrence County JROTC Cougar Battalion is operating at a high tempo**, and you can feel the momentum building. More importantly, our cadets are once again becoming a visible part of our school—supporting events, representing Lawrence County, and helping reintegrate the **school pride, spirit, and service** that JROTC should bring to the campus.

Our **new cadets are adapting and adopting the JROTC culture.** They are learning that this program is about much more than wearing a uniform. It is about discipline, accountability, teamwork, physical fitness, leadership, and being part of something bigger than yourself.

**Physical Fitness is kicking into gear.** Cadets are being challenged, learning where they stand, and beginning to understand that improvement comes from showing up and putting in the work.

**Drill is sharpening.** New drillers are developing, experienced cadets are stepping into teaching roles, and we are beginning to see the foundation of our competition teams take shape.

And our **Cadet Leadership—man, what can I say?**

They are stepping up and doing what leaders are supposed to do. They are communicating, organizing, teaching, correcting, mentoring, and taking ownership of the Battalion. They are learning that leadership isn't about the rank on your chest—it is about accepting responsibility for the mission and for the people around you.

We still have a long school year ahead of us. There will be challenges, mistakes, hard training, long days, competitions, missions, and plenty of opportunities to get better.

But after this first month, one thing is clear:

**The Cougar Battalion is moving forward.**

The culture is growing.
The standard is rising.
The cadets are stepping up.
And our presence within Lawrence County High School is getting stronger.

All I can say is this:

**I AM PROUD OF THESE CADETS!**

Keep showing up. Keep working. Keep leading.
