We are excited to welcome our students back to campus on Tuesday, August 25th! We're also happy to share our amended school calendar.

Last night the Wayne County Board of Education approved the variable calendar option, which allows the district to base the school year on 1,062 hours of instruction rather than the traditional 170 days. Fall break, Christmas break, Spring break, and other holidays remain the same as in the original calendar. The tentative last day of school for students is May 24. That is subject to change if we miss days for snow.

Walker Early Learning Center is celebrating a major achievement! Our preschool program has earned a Kentucky All STARS Level 5 designation, which is the highest level of quality recognized by the program. This recognition reflects the commitment of our staff, students, and families to creating strong starts and bright futures for our youngest Cardinals.

Due to ongoing construction at Walker Early Learning Center, Wayne County Schools will delay the start of classes until Tuesday, August 25 for students in grades K-12. The first day of preschool will be Tuesday, September 8, with preschool phase-in days set for September 2 and 3. Preschool teachers will reach out to parents to schedule phase-in.

While delaying the opening of school is not optimal, it is necessary to ensure the safety of all students and staff. The Wayne County Board of Education will approve an amended school calendar during their regular monthly meeting on August 20. More details on the remainder of the school schedule will be shared once approved by the board.

Orientations will continue as scheduled this week:

Tuesday, August 4 – Walker ELC, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM @ Bell
Tuesday, August 4 – WCMS 7th and 8th grade, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Thursday, August 6 – Monticello Elementary, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Thursday, August 6 – WCMS 6th grade, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Thursday, August 6 – WCHS, 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM
