Bell Elementary held its first Drop-Off with Dads on Friday, and the event was a great success. Dads joined staff in assisting with the morning drop-off process, welcoming students as they arrived for the school day. The morning gave students a chance to see dads taking an active role at their school.

Thank you to the dads who took part and to the Bell Elementary staff who made Drop-Off with Dads possible.

🏀Friday night, relaxing a little and thinking about the basketball season ahead!

The weather is getting colder, and that can only mean one thing… Lady Cards basketball is getting closer! Our 2026–2027 season schedule is officially here, and we can’t wait to get back on the court!

A big thank you to Walk-In Clinic for sponsoring our schedule this season! We’ll have physical copies available to hand out soon.

We’re also proud of our Lady Cards who are out competing and succeeding in other sports this fall! Keep representing our program and Wayne County well!

Celebrating GEAR UP Week in Wayne County!

September 21–25 is GEAR UP Week, and Wayne County is recognizing the important role the program plays in helping our students prepare for life beyond high school.

Wayne County Judge-Executive Scott Gehring and Monticello Mayor Kenny Catron joined Wayne County Schools Superintendent Brian Dishman to officially recognize GEAR UP Week with the signing of a proclamation celebrating the program and its impact on local students.

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is designed to help students build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to successfully pursue education and career opportunities after high school. Through college and career exploration, campus visits, academic support, financial literacy, family engagement and other opportunities, GEAR UP helps students begin planning for their futures early.

Here in Wayne County Schools, those opportunities give our students valuable experiences beyond the classroom and help them see the many pathways available after graduation.

We appreciate our GEAR UP team, community leaders, educators and partners who continue working together to help Wayne County students dream bigger, plan ahead and prepare for what comes next.

Connie's Corner Market Backs Perfect Attendance in Wayne County Schools

Wayne County Schools is proud to introduce "Make Every Day Count," our districtwide initiative to highlight just how much daily attendance matters, not only for academic learning, but for students' overall growth and well-being.

Throughout the school year, families will see this message reinforced through yard signs placed across the community and other efforts to keep attendance at the front of everyone's mind.

Those yard signs represent something bigger than a reminder, they're a visible show of support from local businesses and community partners who believe in Wayne County students. We're grateful for every partner standing behind this effort, and we're excited to spotlight the difference their generosity makes.

One of those partners is Connie's Corner Market, a proud supporter of "Make Every Day Count."

This semester, Connie's Corner Market is awarding $500 to one student with perfect attendance, drawn between now and Christmas break. A second $500 award will go to a perfect-attendance student in the spring semester.

Support like this reminds our students that the community is paying attention and are invested in them showing up every day. Connie's Corner Market is owned and operated by school board member Tony and Angela Roberts in partnership with Jarvis Criswell Jr. and his wife, Sandy, and their commitment to Wayne County students goes beyond the school walls.

We're proud to have local businesses like Connie's Corner Market standing behind "Make Every Day Count." Look for our yard signs throughout Wayne County, a visible way for businesses and community members to show their support for our students.

Wayne County Board of Education – September Meeting

The Wayne County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, September 17.

During the meeting, board members approved the working budget for the 2026–2027 school year. The budget includes the latest revenue projections, updated salary information for all employees, and a 3.5% General Fund contingency.

Other highlights from the meeting included:

• Bell Elementary Principal Leslye Rice provided an update on current initiatives and programming at the school.

• Students Cora Alley, Maddyn Brake, Cloie Dunagan, Madden Hesse, Reagan Jones, Serenity Parmley, and Aiden Vaughn were recognized for their participation in the Rogers Explorers program.

• Tonya Marcum, visual art teacher at Walker and Bell, was recognized as the Wayne County Education Association Teacher of the Month.

• The Board approved Pay Request #7 for the Walker Early Learning Center renovation project in the amount of $2,448,453.95.

• A memorandum of agreement with GEAR UP for the 2026–2027 school year was approved.

• The Board approved the following invoices to DECO Architects for professional services:
- $15,421.63 for the District Facility Plan
- $9,232.44 for the Walker renovation project
- $21,369.60 for the Gym and Football Field ADA renovation project
- $3,967.50 for the Bell Elementary office and restroom renovation

Wayne County Schools will continue to share updates on district initiatives, facility improvements, student achievements, and other work taking place throughout the school year.
