Calling all Alabama student artists!

The Alabama State Department of Education’s Alabama State Superintendent Visual Arts Exhibit (SSVA) gives Alabama public school students the opportunity to showcase their 2D, photography, or computer-generated artwork at the state level.
Selected artwork will be judged and exhibited in the Old Library of Congress at the Alabama State Capitol beginning in February, with winners recognized at an awards reception in March.

Students must be enrolled in an Alabama public school, and each student may submit one original, individually created artwork.
Schools planning to participate must complete the required SSVA Intent to Participate Form by October 26.

ARTS IN EDUCATION SPOTLIGHT: Marshall Christian Academy

Students at Marshall Christian Academy in Albertville are exploring the element of LINE through a hands-on art experience led by art teacher Ramona Hall.
Pre-K, kindergarten, and first-grade students painted, cut, curled, folded, and twisted paper lines to create their own artwork, which they transformed into wearable headdresses. The lesson also introduced students to African headdress traditions, music, rhythm, and movement.

The experience ended with a celebration and art parade—showing how creative, joyful, and engaging arts education can be!

ARTS IN EDUCATION SPOTLIGHT: Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theatre and Academy

Since 1961, Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theatre and Academy has been bringing theatre arts education to children and families through productions, classes, camps, workshops, and outreach programs.

By making theatre accessible to young people of all backgrounds and abilities, FPCTA helps students build confidence, creativity, and skills that extend far beyond the stage.

Rebekah received her Associate’s in Studio Art from the University of North Georgia. She loves to paint anything hot pink, make collages in her junk journal, and nurture the creativity in others.

She has been teaching art to all ages across Pike County for 3+ years. She believes art is medicine. You can find her having fun at Summer Art Explosion, Creative Explorers, Share My World Academy, Boys and Girls Club Troy, Headstart Troy, Sprout Early Learning Center, Troy Health & Rehab and more.
