Alabama State University Department of Theatre & Dance Presents

Emerging Visions: Choreography Showcase

MONTGOMERY, AL, September 2026- The Alabama State University Department of Theatre & Dance will present Emerging Visions: Choreography Showcase on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in ASU’s Ralph D. Abernathy Hall.

Emerging Visions celebrates the creativity, artistry, and individual voices of Alabama State University’s emerging student choreographers. The showcase provides BFA Dance students with an opportunity to step beyond the role of performer and into the role of choreographer, transforming their ideas and artistic concepts into original works for the stage.

Featuring a collection of student-created choreography, the showcase will explore a variety of movement styles, musical perspectives, themes, and creative approaches. Each work offers audiences a glimpse into the developing artistic identities of the next generation of choreographers.

The showcase encourages students to take creative risks, experiment with movement and storytelling, and develop their own choreographic perspectives within the supportive environment of the ASU BFA Dance Program.

“We are excited to give our students a platform where their creative ideas can take center stage,” said Morgan Jackson, Director of Emerging Visions and Assistant Professor of Dance at Alabama State University. “Emerging Visions allows our students to experience the full creative process of developing choreography while giving audiences the opportunity to witness the unique voices emerging from our program.”

The Alabama State University Department of Theatre & Dance invites students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, and members of the Montgomery community to experience an afternoon or evening of innovative movement and emerging artistry while supporting the next generation of choreographers.
