Weekday farm chores aren’t always glamorous, but they are where the magic starts!
As you walk through the twists and turns of our “just planted” corn maze this fall, there’s sure to be a little (or maybe a lot 🤣) of Texas sweat on your part…and a whole lotta ❤️ 🤍💙on our part.
We are a 3rd gen rooted {ranchin’} family and can’t wait to share our 16th annual fall festival with you.

Farmer Hubby’s office today - no thanks to “Pasture Mealybugs” 😳
➡️When it comes to these 🐞 they sure can wreak havoc on our hay fields by:
1. Reducing the quality of our hay
2. Reducing the # of bales
3. Reducing the market value
4. More $ to control them if it gets out of 🤚
5. Killing the grass
Our livestock (🐄🐴🐐) can’t grow healthy without QUALITY hay.
Every decision we make in the field (from preparing the soil to protecting our crop from pests) is ALL about producing
nutrient-rich hay they can depend on❣️

What’s Happening Wednesday…is a day late this week. Between rehab and my 6 weeks post op appointment for LCL replacement, I had my days off 🤦♀️ 🩼
It’s Hay season & it’s a pretty “cut & dry” 👏🏻🤣 several day process…
1. 👀 Decide the best time to cut (🚫🌧️)
2. 🌾 Cut the hay
3. 🚜 Ted it (spreads/fluffs to help dry it out ☀️)
4. 🌿 Rake into windrows (for the baler)
5. 📦 Bale the hay (round or square)
6. 🏠Store it in the hay barn
7. 🚛 Haul the extras to the hay trap

🤠 Farmer Bo’s Planting 🎃 Tips:
1. Rip the ground 🚜 (loosen the deep soil)
2. Disk the dirt SEVERAL times (prep dirt)
3. Preplant fertilizer (encourage strong roots)
4. Disk AGAIN (incorporate fertilizer into soil)
5. 🔪 the drip tape (to deliver💧to seed/plant)
6. Plant the 🌱 (seeds)
7. 💦 the seeds (thru drip irrigation)
8. Say a prayer 🙏🏻 or 🙏🏻🙏🏻 or 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
9. 🕰️ for 🌱 to sprout
10. 🧑🌾 replant areas that didn’t sprout
11. Fertilize 1-2 weekly until mid/end September
12. Guests come out for u-pick 🎃
