We are of our superintendent! Congratulations, Dr. Byrd!

Meet Dr. Zickeyous M. Byrd Superintendent of Montgomery Public Schools and a transformational leader with more than 20 years of experience in public education.

From classroom teacher to superintendent, Dr. Byrd has dedicated his career to ensuring every student has access to high-quality education and opportunities for success. His leadership has driven successful turnaround efforts across multiple Alabama school districts, with a focus on academic excellence, innovation, accountability, and community engagement.

Under his leadership, Montgomery Public Schools launched the bold “MPS Transformed” strategic plan, expanding academic pathways, workforce development opportunities, student supports, and community partnerships throughout the district.

Dr. Byrd will serve on the YMCA of Greater Montgomery Association Board, continuing his commitment to mentorship, service, and strengthening our community. Above all, he is a proud father and servant leader who believes every student should be known, challenged, and inspired.
