Creating the Leadership Teams for the New Academic Year

While the adult mentors, instructors and leaders are preparing for the new academic year, the Cadet Guardians in the ten units also are working on their contributions.

For example, on July 24 the senior high school students in the unit in Apple Valley, California (CA-20068) gathered for their summer Cadet (Guardian) Officer Training School. The program is led by the students with the support of the instructor team. Leadership is a critical component of the SFJROTC program.

The ten high school units are managed by Air Force Junior ROTC with the support of United States Space Force, Space Training and Readiness Command, Space Delta 1, Detachment 2.

The entire Space Force Junior ROTC enterprise would like to welcome back for his second year of support, the commander Detachment 2 of Space Delta 1, Major Henry N. Loewenkamp.

According to his official biography, "Major Henry Loewenkamp is the Detachment 2 Commander, Space Delta 1, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. As the Detachment 2 commander, he oversees United States Space Force Officer accessions requirements for Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) and Officer Training School. Additionally, Detachment 2 oversees the Space Force Junior ROTC program ensuring Guardian culture and education environments for 10 detachments."

The Junior ROTC program is not for military accession, but it is grounded in Title 10 public law. The SFJROTC effort uses the Space Force culture to help "launch citizens of character with a space vision" into their communities and the nation.

The current SFJROTC enterprise consists of 10 high school units in 10 different states. It is managed by Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFJROTC) with the support of United States Space Force, Space Training and Readiness Command, Space Delta 1, Detachment 2.

Meeting the Leadership Team for the New Academic Year

The entire Space Force Junior ROTC enterprise would like to welcome back for her second year of leadership, the commander of Space Delta 1, Colonel Krista N. St Romain. Space Delta 1, headquartered at Vandenberg SFB, is the training organization for the United States Space Force under the Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM). Through Detachment 2, located on Maxwell AFB, the delta provides advice and support for the Space Force culture, ethos, and space-based aerospace education for the high school Cadet Guardians and the Space Force Junior ROTC curriculum. The program is not for military accession, but it is grounded in public law. The SFJROTC effort uses the Space Force culture to help "launch citizens of character with a space vision" into their communities and the nation.

Meeting the Leadership Team for the New Academic Year

The entire Space Force Junior ROTC enterprise would like to welcome the new director of HQ Air Force Junior ROTC, Colonel Michael F. Power. HQ Air Force JROTC is part of the Holm Center at Maxwell AFB. It includes both the Air Force and Space Force high school programs.

According to his biography, "Col. Michael F. Power is the Director, Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He is responsible for the [Department of the] Air Force’s high school citizenship training program comprised of 91,000 students and 1,650 instructors at approximately 850 high schools worldwide. Colonel Power directs staff initiatives and policy to implement the world’s largest and most comprehensive aerospace science education program."

The current enterprise consists of 10 high school units in 10 different states. It is managed by Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFJROTC) with the support of United States Space Force, Space Training and Readiness Command, Space Delta 1, Detachment 2.

Saluting Summer Service

While many high school students are enjoying the summer break, many continue to serve their units and communities between the academic years.

The team in Apple Valley, California (CA-20068) recently provided service to raise funds for next year’s unit programs. In Florida (FL-20082) a 2026 graduate completed her work on the unit’s drill pad. does not take a break for the summer.

The ten units of the enterprise are managed by Air Force Junior ROTC with the support of United States Space Force, Space Training and Readiness Command, Space Delta 1, Detachment 2.

The 34th President of the United States and former general, Dwight D. Eisenhower, was quoted in the 1971 book, "Nineteen Stars: A Study of Military Character and Leadership" with these words on the importance of :

"Character in many ways is everything in leadership. It is made up of many things, but I would say character is really integrity."

The mission of the Space Force JROTC enterprise is to "launch citizens of character with a space-vision" into their communities and the Nation.

On January 2, 1995, George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States stated that:

"The 'American Dream' means giving it your all, trying your hardest, accomplishing something. And then I'd add to that, giving something back. No definition of a successful life can do anything but include serving others."

is a critical component of the Junior ROTC enterprise. The highest unit award goes to those high school students who provide service to others in their community and develop the to giving their efforts to bettering others.

Defining "Character" Through Our History #3

The Space Force JROTC enterprise celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Nation with posts on the importance of its "prime directive and mission" -- to launch citizens of character into their communities.

What is ? On January 1, 1997, the United States Air Force published its "Little Blue Book" that explained the new core values for the service. The book articulated the traits that are important to live the value of Integrity.

"...Integrity is a character trait. It is the willingness to do what is right even when no one is looking.... Integrity is the ability to hold together and properly regulate all of the elements of a personality... capable of acting on conviction.... can control impulses and appetites.... Courage... Honesty...Responsibility... Accountability... Justice... Openness...Self-respect...Humility."
