Alabama State University was founded in 1867, in Marion, Ala., as a school for African-Americans. The school started as the Lincoln Normal School with $500 raised by nine freed slaves now known as the Marion Nine, making ASU one of the nation’s oldest institutions of higher education founded for black Americans.

25 high school students from across the Southeast spent the week getting hands-on experience in mechanical and biomedical engineering, the kind of experience that builds confidence and curiosity.

ASU's ASPIRE Summer Camp students spent the day at the ASU Teaching Garden, planting flowers and learning how insects help keep our ecosystems thriving.

ASPIRE gives students a mix of academic, cultural and enrichment experiences both inside and outside the classroom - because growth happens everywhere.

Students participating in our High School Engineering Camp gained hands-on experience exploring engineering concepts and career pathways. They also visited ASU's Prosthetics and Orthotics Lab, where they saw innovation in action.
