Follow the Hornets as we lead, innovate, and make room for greatness. Alabama State University was founded in 1867, in Marion, Ala., as a school for African-Americans. The school started as the Lincoln Normal School with $500 raised by nine freed slaves now known as the Marion Nine, making ASU one of the nation’s oldest institutions of higher education founded for black Americans.

Through meaningful dialogue and shared learning, we strengthen our culture of care and prepare to support one another with greater understanding and compassion. These conversations help build a community where people feel heard, supported and safe, with an impact that extends beyond campus and into the communities we serve.

Hornets lead with heart.

ASU students, faculty and staff came together for a Sickle Cell Awareness Forum hosted by the Beta Chi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and the National Marrow Donor Program.

Through education and the opportunity to join the donor registry, students explored how they could help someone living with sickle cell disease or another blood disorder. A moment of connection. A possibility for lasting impact.
