This move looks completely wrong... and that's exactly why so many players fall for it. ๐
In the Italian Game, Black appears to hang a pawn and waste a tempo. Most players grab the pawn without a second thought.
That's when the trap begins.
Would you have taken it?

STATE CHAMPION! ๐๐
Congratulations to our very own Coach Rasberry for tying for 1st place at todayโs Alabama State Blitz Championship! Finishing with an impressive 4.5/6 points, he secured the co-state champion title alongside Isaac Snow.
Coach Rasberry just won himself a tournament, now which student is ready to win the next one? โ๏ธ๐ฅ
A big thank you to the Evangel Chess Club for hosting another fantastic event!
Did you know over 835,000 online chess games have ended in this exact trap? ๐
This is the Englund Gambit, a fast-paced, tricky opening setup that we love showing our students. It teaches them a crucial lesson: just because a move looks natural doesn't mean it's safe!
Whether we are coaching students online or hosting our in-person camps right here in Montgomery, we teach kids tactical awareness, critical thinking, and how to spot danger before it strikes.

Yesโฆ kindergarteners can absolutely play chess!! โ๏ธ
This class has been one of the highlights of my year. Teaching chess to these Montessori School at Hampstead kindergarteners was nonstop fun, and seeing how much they learned over the course of the year was honestly amazing.
We wrapped things up with our year-end tournament today, and I couldnโt be prouder of how much everyone improved. Wishing these awesome kids all the best moving forward!
Does chess actually make you smarter? The answer might surprise you.
It isnโt just about moving the pieces. Itโs about how you train. At Rasberry Chess Academy, we design our classes to challenge the brain just enough to spark growth, while keeping it engaging.

Congratulations to our coach, Andrew, on being named Valedictorian of Ezekiel Academy!
For the past four years, Andrew has been an outstanding chess coach and mentor to our students. Beyond his work at Rasberry Chess Academy, he has achieved remarkable success personally in regional and national speech and debate competitions, and a few years ago he won the Alabama Dual-Rated U1200 Championship.
Andrew will be greatly missed by his students and everyone at Rasberry Chess Academy, but we are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished and wish him the very best as he pursues higher education.
