💰 National PTA Grant Opportunity

National PTA is offering funding to eligible PTAs to host programs focused on STEM, healthy lifestyles, the arts, and student engagement. If you are a newly chartered PTA, this is a great opportunity to apply for funding and expand the impact your PTA is making in your community!

🎨 National Arts in Education Week may be coming to a close, but the creativity, encouragement, and opportunities we have celebrated this week should continue all year long.

This week, we have celebrated the power of the arts, the creativity and voices of our students, and the people who encourage them to create, explore, and express themselves.

So perhaps the best way to close this week is by asking:

How will we keep it going?

One way is through National PTA Reflections, where students are encouraged to explore their own ideas, experiences, and perspectives through the arts.

And there is something especially meaningful about this year's theme, “What My Culture Means to Me.” It gives students an opportunity to explore what has shaped them and express something that is uniquely their own.

Imagine what we could learn about our students if we simply gave them the opportunity to show us.

So let's keep encouraging. Keep creating. Keep making room for the arts. And let's give even more Alabama students the opportunity to share their stories through Reflections.

Maybe this can even be the year that every Alabama PTA and PTSA finds a way to participate. Even one student can be a beginning.

🎨 There is something special about seeing a student bring an idea to life.

A blank page becomes a story. A thought becomes a song. An idea becomes movement, an image, a performance, or something completely unexpected.

As we continue celebrating National Arts in Education Week, today we celebrate the incredible creativity of our students and the imagination, courage, and individuality they bring to the arts.

Every student creates differently. Sometimes the greatest part of creating is simply having the opportunity to try, explore, take a chance, and make something that is your own.

And when students are given those opportunities, we get to see something pretty amazing:

Their ideas. Their perspectives. Their creativity.

To students across Alabama who are creating and imagining in ways all their own, keep creating. Keep exploring. Keep sharing what only you can bring to the world.

🎨 Every student has a story. Every culture has meaning. And through the arts, students can share what that meaning looks, sounds, and feels like to them.

As we continue celebrating National Arts in Education Week, today we are shining a special spotlight on National PTA Reflections and this year’s theme, “What My Culture Means to Me.”

Culture can mean so many things. It can be found in our families, traditions, communities, languages, music, food, celebrations, experiences, and the stories and memories that help shape who we are. There is no single way for a student to define their culture because each student has a story that is uniquely their own.

Through Reflections, students are invited to explore that story and express what this year’s theme means to them through Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, or Visual Arts. Students who participate in the Accessible Arts division are encouraged to share their creativity, too.

And sometimes, all it takes is one person to ask a student:

What does your culture mean to you?

That question could be the beginning of something meaningful.

To our PTAs and PTSAs, educators, school faculty and staff, families, and communities across Alabama, help us encourage students to think about the theme, explore their creativity, and share their stories through the arts.

Your story matters. Your culture matters. Your creativity matters.
