Lately I’ve had to channel my inner “Dwight Shrute”. (If you’re not a fan of “The Office” that means it’s me against the robots). We are getting more and more AI photos for inspiration pieces to copy. We don’t mind. We love a challenge!

This customer didn’t want mullions on the glass doors, and picked her hardware, contours, etc. We think SHE beat the robots!

When we were carrying the finished piece into the showroom, we were amazed at the beauty of the Walnut. It made me think what a wonderful God we have! He could have said “let there be a tree”, without any variation. Instead, He gave us about 73,000 species, all a little different and beautiful in their own way!

There’s “custom” and there’s CUSTOM! CUSTOM (what we have the privilege of doing), is giving our CUSTOMers the exact piece for their space.

The Kyzers needed a small table to fit in their Auburn home, with an existing built in banquette. They gave me a photo of an inspiration piece from an online store.

The Sextons wanted to extend their island at their Lake Martin home, and chose a stacked pedestal base.

Both CUSTOMers chose Ambrosia Maple, and got special stain colors from Katie and the guys at New Look Decorating on Atlanta Highway.

We are so thankful for our friends who trust us to make their spaces truly special.

Date Night/Christmas Events Update:

We have received sooo many emails and calls about our date night events. Neill and I love these events and getting to meet new people (and repeat attendees:)) and share part of our world of creating.

Unfortunately we have been unable to keep doing them at the pace we were due to our awesome clients and their custom furniture orders!! We have so much respect for when a deposit is put down for their piece that we have to focus on building their vision.

With all that said we are going to have a date night event January 15. I will post it the week of Thanksgiving. So check your calendars and hopefully we will see you in the shop!

Christmas parties have always been so much fun! We will have limited Saturdays open and will schedule up to 3 events. It is a minimum of 18 people. Please email us at [email protected] for more information if you are interested.

We finished a large White Oak table in one of the most beautiful homes we’ve seen, in downtown Wetumpka. You can see in the photo the Pecky Cypress island and hand scraped Hickory floors. We also contributed butcher block Walnut countertops in the pantry and coffee bar, and a White Oak mantle over the large fireplace.

We also delivered a large Maple table to Grace Presbyterian Church, in Montgomery. The design was perfect for a conference table.

Lorie lives in Mobile and heard about us through friends. She needed a large, square table to fit her space, and another table maker in Mobile told her they only do rectangle or round tables 🤔.

She sent us dimensions and via text messages, we worked through design, lumber type, and stain colors. We finished the top initially with a Dark Walnut, but we didn’t think there was enough contrast with the Onyx legs. We sanded it down and used an Old Masters gel stain that we had never used before and the results were amazing! She was thrilled with the table and is already thinking of her next piece for us to build!

Like Lorie, you can design your table from wherever, and don’t need to come into the showroom. But we are always happy to work with our customers and show them lumber types, bases, stain samples, and everything else that makes a table a custom table!

This is a nerdy woodworking post. This week we have been working with some unique wood to build a round dining table, a mantle, and a bench top for an upcoming wedding.

The dining table is made of Ambrosia Maple, which is one of our most chosen lumber types. Some people call it “Wormy Maple”, but the small holes and character is caused by the Ambrosia Beetles, who make their home in the wood. We only use furniture grade, kiln dried lumber, which makes certain there is nothing creeping around in the wood!

The mantle is made from Cypress that we put under tin for several months. We sort of cook it, to get the rot that is so beautiful. We have made many mantles with this faux Pecky Cypress. We bevel each piece and even the ends so that the mantles appear to be a large beam, even though the lumber is only about an inch thick.

The bench top is Hickory that we milled. We let the logs sit on the ground for a few months, which gives it the character not found in commercial Hickory lumber.

If you haven’t followed us long, you may not know that several of our builds are from reclaimed or locally milled lumber provided by our customers.

We just delivered a French Farmhouse table, made from a Hickory that had fallen from a storm. The Thompsons had it milled and dried locally. The Antique Brown finish made the table give the feeling that it had been in the beautiful home for decades.

Southern Venture Partners recently finished the renovation of the Murphrey building, in Barnesville, Georgia, and we built the five exterior doors from reclaimed Heart Pine that they sourced and provided.

We currently have three tables on the books from lumber provided by our customers.

If you’re looking for something very sentimental, with a story behind it, let’s talk about what we can do.

I saw this article about the lack of new woodworkers and it made me think of how many things I have to be grateful for.

I can’t imagine not making furniture. Five months ago, when I had my accident, I was told I wouldn’t have any grip strength in my left hand, but here I am tonight turning two sets of our French Farmhouse legs. One of the sets is Hickory, spinning at around 1100 rpm’s, and the blank weighs about 30 pounds. And honestly I haven’t really slowed down much at all. God is good!

I’m also grateful for the men who have patiently watched over me and taught me the craft of woodworking. It’s been 99% them, and 1% other instruction. I hope I have the temperament to pass down to others. God is good!

I’m also so grateful to young employees who have been patient with me as I have walked them through building all kinds of different furniture. We have been so blessed with the guys who have been along side us, building away. I hope they can use the knowledge and experience. Did I mention God is good?!

It’s not for everybody. It’s a lot like playing a guitar. I’ve wanted to all my life, but just not bad enough to put in the time. Now I’m going to have to play left handed 😳. But, again, God is so good!

I put a few pictures in with pieces we have delivered or had picked up this week or late last week. Descriptions are in the captions.

If you ever wonder if He’s not good, take time to do what my momma said…count your blessings.

We are also very grateful to fantastic people who trust us. It is not taken lightly.
