Montgomery High School is proud to announce that David Burnett has been named as the Band Director for the 2026.2027 school year.
Mr. Burnett is currently in his 27th year as a Band Director in Texas. He was an All-State clarinet player at Humble High School and went on to earn an undergraduate degree at The University of Houston, where he was in the Wind Ensemble for 4 years, one of those as Principal Clarinet. He later earned a Master’s degree in Music Education from Texas A&M Kingsville.
Mr. Burnett has been the Head Band Director at Victoria West High School for the past 3 years. During his time in Victoria, his bands earned consistent First Division ratings at both UIL Marching and UIL Concert/Sightreading competitions. Before that, he taught for a number of years in Flour Bluff ISD, where his bands were recognized in both State and National competitions. The Assistant Band Directors under his guidance have also been successful at UIL and other musical endeavors, and several have gone on to lead successful programs of their own.
Mr. Burnett and his wife, Julie, have 4 children, all of whom went through his band program. His youngest daughter is currently working toward an undergraduate degree in Music Education at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and his son has a degree in Music Education from the University of Houston, where he was Principal Clarinet in both the Wind Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra and is currently a Band Director in Klein ISD. In his free time, Mr. Burnett enjoys traveling with his family, playing chess, and raising 2 ornery cats.
Welcome to Montgomery High School, Mr. Burnett! We can’t wait to see you under the Friday Night Lights working with our Bears! 🐻

Good job to the MISD Fishing Team and the MHS anglers that participated. It was a long, hot weekend, but in the end, they finished 4th out of 110 high schools! Not a shabby outing on the lake! Get Hooked!

The MHS Horticulture Class has shared some delicious fresh produce with the staff recently.💜💛
Our Horticulture class wrapped up one of our biggest harvests of the semester today, and we would love your help finding homes for all of this fresh produce!
Today’s student harvest included:
🌶️ 58 Jalapeño peppers
🌶️ 32 Banana peppers
🥒 5 Squash
🫑 1 Bell pepper
🍆 3 Eggplants
🥒 1 Cucumber
That’s a total of 100 pieces of fresh produce harvested by our students today!
Please note: many of the students who have helped grow and maintain this garden throughout the semester are either absent today or are seniors who have already completed their time on campus, so they are not pictured — but they have played a huge role in making this garden successful!
